Malawi Update

As Malawi starts to re-open for tourism, and people start to make plans to travel, we intend to keep everyone updated on, and inspired about, Malawi so that tourism can aid in the country’s recovery fully as visitors return.

Lilongwe and Blantyre airports are open with Ethiopian Airways and Kenya Airways providing international services.

All nationalities can enter Malawi for tourism.

When required, visas are best obtained on arrival.

Visitors must have a negative COVID-19 certificate obtained no more than 10 days prior to arrival.

Visitors must then self-monitor but can travel freely whilst observing mask, physical distancing and hand hygiene protocols.

Malawi to get its first Cultural & Heritate website

Through backing by the UNDP & Ministry of Tourism, The Responsible Safari Company are in the process of launching Malawi’s first ever Cultural & Heritage database. This will be used for domestic and international travellers to visit both established and previously unknown cultural sites across the country, providing valuable income for rural communities and off the beaten track areas, and importantly promoting the awareness of Malawi’s unique cultural heritage for the next generation.

Filming underway for second season of ‘Malawi Wildlife Rescue'

Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, a not-for-profit conversation organisation operating in Malawi, are pleased to welcome the return of their wildlife documentary – Malawi Wildlife Rescue. Filming has begun for another six-part documentary series on the work of the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust. The show will follow our Head Vet, Dr. Amanda Salb, and her team in their efforts to rescue and rehabilitate wild animals across Malawi.

New safari options, lake cottage & charity projects from Kiboko in 2021

Kiboko Safaris, one of Malawi’s most reputable tour companies that also run a selection of lodges, have been developing their strategy to offer even more to their guests in 2021. Rafiki Safari Camp: Secluded beach access, pools & new rooms coming in 2021

Rafiki Safari Camp, located just outside Malawi’s Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, have been working on a fantastic bunch of projects which promise to gain huge interest from future visitors to the area. Find out more about their ‘Bush and Beach’ and ‘Cuddle Puddle’ projects, alongside their other upgrades all planned in 2021.

The Makokola Retreat redevelop Superior Beach Rooms with stunning makeover

The Makokola Retreat, a luxury development situated on the golden sands of Malawi’s Mangochi Lakeshore, have given their superior rooms a makeover ready to welcome guests in 2021.The Superior Beach Rooms, which face out across the Makokola gardens with views of Lake Malawi too, provide guests with their own private terrace for personal relaxation.

Nyala Lodge opens new Conference Centre in Lengwe National Park

Nyala Lodge, located in Lengwe National Park and run by Malawi tour operator Jambo Africa, has been expanded with a brand new Conference Centre, which has now opened.

The conference centre, which was completed in late October 2020 can seat up to 40 people and tables can be adjusted to suit the conference.
