Malawi was recognised as a Lonely Planet Top 10 Best in Travel Country for 2022 for its continued efforts in developing sustainable tourism even through the COVID-19 Pandemic. Many in Malawi’s tourist industry have since introduced new initiatives and pushed on with a variety of developments through 2022 & continuing in to 2023 – mostly geared towards ensuring that they and their guests have a positive impact on the country. Malawi Heading for the Top: Climbing riches show endless potential

 
   
 

A newly emerging operation, Climb Malawi, is now drawing attention to Malawi’s climbing riches, and giving residents and visitors increasing opportunities to access them. A self-proclaimed ‘socio-economically inclusive climbing community in the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ where everyone is welcome and no one is turned away’, Climb Malawi has set up a donation-based climbing gym in Lilongwe, and is developing bouldering and climbing areas around the country.

A new generation of cheetahs born in Liwonde National Park

 
   
 

Lilongwe Wildlife Trust (LWT), responsible for running Malawi’s only wildlife rehabilitation centre and a key campaigner in Malawi’s fight against wildlife crime, have reported news of cheetah cubs recently born spotted in Liwonde National Park. These cubs represent the third generation of cheetahs to be born in Liwonde since the reintroduction in 2017 by African Parks in partnership with Endangered Wildlife Trust and DNPW Malawi.
