Dear students, doctoral researchers, young scientists and postdocs

We would like to invite you to apply to perform at the 2024 GFFA Science Slam in Berlin on 19 January 2024! You will present your research project live in a science slam communication format in front of a great audience that will vote for the most entertaining, interesting and well explained presentation.

The 16th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) on the topic of “Food Systems for Our Future: Joining Forces for a Zero Hunger World” will be held from 17 to 20 January 2024 as an in-person event.

With the GFFA, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) offers an international platform to discuss key issues relating to the future of the global agri-food sector. At the 2024 GFFA, the following four subtopics will be discussed:

• Promoting sustainable production and food sovereignty
• Supporting resilient and sustainable supply chains
• Reducing food loss and food waste
• Strengthening vulnerable groups

The 2024 GFFA Science Slam will take place at the GFFA in the BMEL-Hall 23a during the Grüne Woche on 19 January 2024.

Our GFFA Science Slam is a competition in which presenters get the opportunity to introduce their scientific research topic in a creative and interactive way. The main aim is to communicate scientific concepts and results to a mixed, technically interested, but predominantly non-scientist audience. However, focus will not be as much on competition as on communication of a specialist topic in a way that entertains, stimulates discussion and creates interactions between the presenter and the audience. Please also read the Tips for successful participation.

The international and intercultural audience of the 2024 GFFA Science Slam is composed of members of industry, academia, politics and the public who are interested in agriculture and food issues. After the slam presentations, the audience rates these presentations in the form of an online vote. Not only the scientific contents but also the comprehensibility and the entertainment value of the presentations will be rated. The slammer with the highest audience rating receives a prize at the end of the event.

Are you able to explain the content of your work in an understandable and entertaining way in no more than ten minutes?
If yes, apply with your research subject, your slam concept and a short introduction video of yourself by 31 October 2023 at the latest!

Upon your successful application, you will receive a professional Science Slam training. Please note that accommodation and travel expenses will be covered.
