Hi ,

Welcome to the Tech Learning Collective Newsletter.

This week is all about .

finding new ways to integrate technology into your lesson planning, to enhance your teaching, and the learning of your students.  The Apple Education Community supports teachers by providing ideas around how to use iPad or Mac to Activate Students Prior Knowledge, to Explore new concepts and ideas, and creative ways for students to Apply their new learning and show understanding.

Activate

You can find great ideas on how to activate students' prior knowledge in the Apple Education Community.  Eoin Hughes ADE provides an excellent example of a lesson designed to begin a unit of work on global habitats. Using the App Keynote, students placed animal shapes on a world map to show where they believed the animals lived. This activity generated great discussion among students and allowed them to address misconceptions.

Explore

During the explore phase, students build new understandings, develop a more profound knowledge of concepts, and correct previously developed misconceptions. Teachers can create artefacts that help students take in and synthesise further information in various ways. Check out this great Keynote animation that clearly shows the moon's changing phases. Or create a workbook in Keynote that gives students opportunity to record and reflect on learning. Click here to see this Numbers Document.

The final stage of the process is where students have the opportunity to share what they now know and understand about the unit of work that they have completed.  This published podcast series by StPiusX Year 6 Students is an awesome example Click the link here to listen to their podcast exploring their cultural history.

This Pages workbook, includes a range of creative opportunities for students to show what they know and understand about the changes that occur to the character Rowan of Rin throughout the book. Click here to check out this creative workbook.
