| | MG Live is of course the biggest MG event in the world. The California Cup autotest will be held, organised by the indefatigable Noel Lindford of the Tyne-Tees Centre - and the T Register now has a team! (see on the right). As well as all the celebrations, there will also be a full schedule of races over the weekend, as well as live music, trade show, lifestyle marquee, Autojumble. New for this year will be a large screen situated by the food and entertainment court that will display racing and live feeds from throughout the event, with Wayne Scott comparing and interviewing members and traders.
And of course the T Register will be there with T Type parking and a stand for you to meet up with fellow T Typers - and see below!
|

So if you do have a white or red 1952 TD and are thinking of going to MG Live, get in touch with Bill Silcock!

| Advice on organising road runs | |
|
|
|
| | The advice from the club on organising road runs has now appeared and is in the hands of the officers of all CRBs.
The big consideration is the availability of Public Liability Insurance( PLI) to cover events - just in case. If this is not in place, then the organisers and participants would be personably liable for any claims issuing from the holding of the event. The MG Car Club is a member of Motorsports UK (MSUK), the statutory delegated authority for controlling events held on public roads, and holding events conforming to their requirements gives club organisers of such events PLI cover of up to £100m. The club also carries its own PLI but only up to £5m. The T Register has its own officer in the form of Bill Silcock who is responsible for making sure that T Register events conform to legal requirements and for signing off the documentation required by MSUK, and he is more than happy to comment on social runs being organised.
Social Runs and Touring AssembliesYou may have heard these two terms bandied around, so what’s the difference in these two kinds of events? A Social Run is classified as an event for up to 25 cars where the destination is the prime importance and no consideration need to be taken of any route guidance. A Touring Assembly is where the route itself is the aim of the event. So an event whose purpose is to meet at at venue is a Social Run, and one such as the runs organised for the T Register Autumn Tours where a route book is provided is a Touring Assembly. A Guide to Organising Road Runs issued by the club will shortly appear in the Members -> MGCC Documents area of the club website.

| | T Types – The May Gourmet Experience
Report on the Spring Tour to Flanders 2022
|
|
|
| Many thanks to Carol Blomfield, Mike Lugg, Bob and Carol Owen and Julian Seymour for the photos | |
|
| | Carol Owen sent this report on what to expect on a T Register Spring Tour … and you can also see more photos in an online album.
Perhaps with a little trepidation ferries or trains were booked, passports checked and the NHS website perused to obtain the Covid pass. Passport control at Dover was fine and no one actually wanted to see the Covid pass.
We arrived in bright sunshine at the Hostellerie Saint Louis in Bollezeele and there to welcome us were the members of the group, sitting on the terrace, glasses in hand. This set the tone for the rest of the event. It doesn’t take long to accept as normal the canapes with the pre-dinner drinks, the amuse-bouches to start and then three gourmet courses of our own choosing - nobody left the table hungry! So, apart from eating, what did we do in Flanders? These trips have no set agenda with the result that couples go off on their own, or form a loose alliance with others for a particular visit. The Tuesday was beautiful (26°C) and many chose to do the longer run to Montreuil sur Mer, suggested by Sally and Bill. The run down the Vallée de la Course is beautiful in May. Some did the whole route whilst others who had dawdled too long at windmills and lunch cut it short - you could not be late back for dinner! For others the aim was to see the sea. The first attempt was abandoned, but they became very familiar with high-rise flats with a sea view. The second attempt was more successful, but it was high tide so the beach area was minimal and packed with scantily clad bodies – it was after all 27°C. And then there is the conversation. Where else could topics encompass life and politics in Venezuela, TT races in the Isle of Man, the merits of Trappist beers especially Westvleteren 12, and the romantic wanderings of a ginger tom within and between the Swiss valleys. Finally, on behalf of all of us, we would like to thank Sally and Bill for organising this trip; their efforts are greatly appreciated.

| | Classic Stony
5 June 2022
Here’s taster of Classic Stony in Stony Stratford which took place amongst damp conditions during the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. But that didn’t seem to deter classic car owners turning up and filling both the Market Square and the High Street with cars.
|
|
|
| There were not surprisingly less open top cars than usual, but unfortunately the crowds were down and probably because of the damp and rather chilly conditions, the cafes and bacon butty stalls seem to be doing great business.
There were only two T Types present - both seen on the left (click on them for a larger view). And as usual, there was the eclectic mix of cars to be seen - see the lower left photo. You can see more photos in an online album, and there could be a video of the event in the July newsletter.

| TF Production Car Colours
Most TF owners will know how to decipher from the Production Car number on the firewall what colour their car originally was when it left the factory. The recent update to the digital factory records mean that it’s much easier to extract data from the records, so here’s a listing of which body colours sold best (and worst) in the destination areas shown by the Production Car number.
Black was the second most popular colour overall but it was more popular amongst Home market customers than in other parts of the world, as was Mid Green. Light Grey was most popular with North American customers than others, but very few were favoured in the Home market and was in fact the least favoured colour.
Easily the most popular colour overall, and nearly equally liked in all destinations, was Dark Red, but more so in LHD countries.
Just so there’s no confusion, the figures show the percentage of the total colours sold for each destination.

| | MGCC EventsWell, the events for this year look to be in full swing, but have a look at the Manchester to Blackpool run listed further down. It’s the last running of this event which has been going for 60 years and the reasons for its ending are the growth of urban sprawl, Clean Air Zones, and the shear amount of traffic at the destination ... | | |

| | | 60th - and last - Manchester to Blackpool Classic Car Run
This is the last time this very popular run will occur. The run will take you from The Henry Boddington pub in Pendlebury, to the Italian Gardens, Stanley Park, Blackpool over some of the finest roads in the northwest of England. The organisers have come to the sad conclusion that with the continued development of Greater Manchester plus the imposition of Clean Air Charges and the time it takes in Blackpool to travel along the Promenade of this incredibly popular seaside resort and also the possibility of the older vehicles overheating in slow moving traffic, the event is being diminished. So 60 years after the first event in 1962 celebrated 60 years of Lancashire Automobile Club, they have decided to hold this last event in 2022 to celebrate 120 years of the LAC. To relive some of the magic of the first event the organisers have recreated both the original routes followed in the 1960s for both Veteran and Vintage cars and the route passes the locations of all the original controls appropriate to each route. The event is a Touring Assembly and Concours D’Elegance which are organised under an MSA Certificate of Exemptions. The Concours D’Elegance will be held at The Italian Gardens in Stanley Park. It’s a great event to watch so catch it while you can. More details on the Lancashire Automobile website.
