| | Everything is a Remix - The 2021 version is out! After the success of the inital video series ‘Everything is a Remix’ in 2015 with millions of views, Kirby Ferguson decided to update the series recently, of which part 1 has just been released. This newly created part 1 focusses on the power of remixing starting with the music industry and in later parts he’ll focus on creativity & technology.
Kirby also created a ‘Everything is Remix: Star Wars edition’ which got sponsored by... yours truly (see the first 5 seconds). Check them all… they’re great! My advice… start with the original!

A great read, the paper by Mohammadhossein Chitsazzadeh on using cross-industry innovation to boost businesses model innovation and industry 4.0 !
Abstract: Innovation is one of the main driving forces for growth, development, and profitability which increases competitive advantages. This drives companies to innovate their business model (BM) with respect to the main novel trends of innovation. From market point of view (market- pull), the innovation is moving towards servitization and from technological perspective (technology-push), it is going to industry4.0.
The challenge is to find a way that helps managers to innovate their business model to comply with these trends. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the application of a method which has the primary criteria that give a good perspective at the first sight. This method is called “Cross-industry innovation” and has not been utilized previously for designing industry4.0 BM.
Cross-industry innovation is a new method of innovation that concerns creative translation and imitation of existing solutions from other industries for responding to the needs of current market, sectors, areas, or domains. This work investigates to what extend companies can rely on cross-industry innovation for innovating their business models towards servitization and industry4.0.

| | The Culture Immersion: an energetic start! As guest lecturer at Fontys Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M), I’m always happy to organise the first ‘content based introduction week’ and to work with wonderful teachers, tutors and external experts to run the ‘culture immersion’. What is the culture immersion (‘cultuurdouche' in Dutch) about?
‘It’s a metaphor for an immersion, get to know Industrial Engineering & Management: the work, the study and the world; by experiencing and researching (by) yourself.' The goal is to enable students to:
1. create their own view & understanding of IE&M
2. work in teams
3. learn to deal with uncertainty
4. creatively (re)imagine & transfer insights to others
5. reflect individually on what they’ve learned And in the meanwhile using 'The LEGO movie' movie as metaphor, create a pop-up museum, deal with excitement & frustration and have fun! 😀.
There actually are many parallels to the leadership development sessions I do with management teams and company boards, yet the students are definately… younger!
