Datum Contracts was called in by London-based Innovare Design to fit-out a new sunglasses concession for David Clulow — part of the international opticians and eyewear group, Luxottica.

The main challenges faced by Datum’s team was that the new concession had to be open and trading within 6 weeks — in time for a major launch of the menswear department in Selfridges. To add a further complexity, the concept for the new first floor concession was still going through the design development process.

Datum worked closely with Mark Chadwick at Innovare to implement the approved design concept from which blueprints were created so that Datum could manufacture each bespoke element of the new concession as each stage was signed off.

The new concession incorporated a selection of high quality materials and finishes, including powder-coated metalwork, glass and Corian, stainless steel and gloss lacquer. Bespoke-designed LED light boxes were sourced to provide an exceptional level of natural lighting for the back panels of each display — ensuring that the every tint and colour of the sunglasses lenses were accurately represented.

Both David Clulow Sunglasses and Selfridges were delighted with the completed project, which was delivered on time.

Commenting on the new concession, Luxottica’s property manager, Paul Bate, said: “We knew that Datum had a very tight deadline to work to but they pulled out all the stops and have delivered a stunning installation.
