 HONORS AND NEWS

Era Kryzhanovskaya received the Henry J. Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Ambulatory Care Setting.

Alex Logan received the Maxine Papadakis Award for Faculty Professionalism and Respect.

Tung Nguyen was named associate vice chancellor for Research – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Anti-Racism.

 OTHER HONORS AND NEWS

Rima Arnaout was named an Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine by the National Academy of Medicine.

Peter Chin-Hong received the Forty-Sixth Annual Award from the Chinese Hospital Board of Trustees and Medical Staff for his contribution to medicine and inspiration to Asian American physicians.

Jenny Cohen and Abby Wilson received the Biggest Impact Award at the Women's Health Field Leaders Conference for their poster, “Improving Primary Care Access for Women Veterans: the Boost Team.”

Sanket Dhruva was appointed vice chair of the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC).

Uma Mahadevan was one of the recipients of the Sherman Prize from the Bruce and Cynthia Sherman Charitable Foundation for her outstanding achievements in the fight to overcome Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Mylo Schaaf's book, Blown into Now, a collection of 45 poems about grief and healing, was published by Blue Light Press.

Babis Andreadis spoke with the New York Times explaining non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the context of Jane Fonda's recent diagnosis.

Peter Chin-Hong wrote an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times describing how the threat of COVID remains and is greater than that of the flu. He also spoke to the New York Times about the new COVID boosters that target the Omicron subvariant and how there isn’t enough research to determine if exercise has an impact on preventing COVID.

Steven Deeks spoke with the San Francisco Chronicle expressing his concern for the disabling symptoms associated with long COVID.

Sanket Dhruva was quoted in the New York Times explaining how the newest medical technologies approved by the Food and Drug Administration often lack clear evidence of safety and effectiveness.

Sarah Doernberg was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle discussing the use of Paxlovid in treating high-risk patients with COVID.     

Monica Gandhi co-wrote an op-ed for Time advising the CDC to recommend a longer interval between a previous booster or infection and the new updated vaccine for healthy adults. She was also quoted in NPR discussing the current risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID and advising those who are immunocompromised or 60 years and older to get the new COVID booster shot.

Warner Greene was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle regarding the release of the Omicron-targeted COVID booster, explaining the importance of targeting the new variants.

Margot Kushel spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle about her recent study on the health issues experienced by homeless adults.

Greg Marcus spoke to ABC News about patients visiting emergency departments after receiving atrial fibrillation alerts from their Apple Watches and explains how the devices can be helpful for patients who have been previously diagnosed with arrhythmia.   

Ina Park was quoted in Forbes regarding monkeypox and how it is primarily behaving as a sexually transmitted infection.

Rita Redberg was featured on the Freakonomics, M.D. podcast discussing her views on testing for heart disease and how her views have changed over time.

Lekshmi Santhosh was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle advising against using unproven practices when treating long COVID symptoms.

Hilary Seligman spoke to NPR about fruit and vegetable prescription programs and how they improve diet quality and food security.

Gina Solomon spoke with KQED explaining the health impacts of extreme heat and what people can do to stay safe. She was also quoted in the Los Angeles Times explaining how policies are needed to address future extreme heat waves.

Geoffrey Tison spoke with KCBS Radio about his research that shows people are not walking as much as they did before the pandemic.

Bob Wachter was quoted in CNN discussing the White House and CDC’s strategy for getting more people boosted. He also spoke with the New York Times about COVID vaccine fatigue and with the Washington Post about the importance of getting boosted to prevent long COVID.

Jason Satterfield and team: a grant of over $1.6M over 2 years for a project entitled, “Integrating nonpharmacologic strategies for pain with inclusion, respect, and equity (INSPIRE): Tailored digital tools, telehealth coaching, and primary care coordination,” from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
