We're thrilled that our residents enjoyed a wonderful fellowship match, with matches in many of the nation's top programs across a broad range of specialties. We're particularly pleased that 26 of our 52 medicine residents applying this year matched in a UCSF fellowship!

Michelle Albert received the Population Research Prize from the American Heart Association.

Eric Goosby was named board member to the Biden-Harris Transition Covid-19 Advisory Board.

Kathy Julian was named UCSF School of Medicine's Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education.

 ID TEAM RECEIVES FIRST TEAM-BASED UCSF HEALTH EXCEPTIONAL PHYSICIAN AWARD

Bryn Boslett, Sarah Doernberg, Chaz Langelier, and Debbie Yokoe (pictured left to right) were the first team to receive the UCSF Health Exceptional Physician Recognition Award for their exemplary leadership and patient care during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Julia Adler-Milstein was elected to the AMIA Board of Directors.

Louise Aronson was featured on NBC Nightly News discussing the impact of the pandemic on isolated older adults. She, along with Ashwin Kotwal, was also featured on KQED and NPR’s Marketplace discussing why some seniors are more resilient during the pandemic.

Peter Chin-Hong was quoted in the New York Times advising against wearing the N95 mask for exercise. He was also quoted, along with Monica Gandhi, in SF Gate describing how mask-wearing can decrease the viral load and severity of a coronavirus infection.

Monica Gandhi was quoted on NPR describing the stigma of taking PrEP for HIV prevention.

Eric Goosby was featured in the SF Chronicle and CNN about his appointment to the Covid-19 Advisory Board by President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

Diane Havlir and Carina Marquez were featured in a Mission Local article about the UCSF/Latino Taskforce’s Covid-19 testing campaign in the San Francisco’s Mission district.

Philip Hopewell received the Union Medal Award from The Union.

Alka Kanaya was quoted in SF Gate and the Washington Post describing how South Asian Americans face disproportionately higher risks of heart disease and other cardiovascular ailments.

Margot Kushel was interviewed on a KQED podcast about how to help the homeless during the pandemic and what’s being done to find permanent solutions to the housing crisis.

Bob Wachter was featured in several media outlets (including NPR, New York Times, USA Today, KQED, and Fox 2 KTVU) regarding the Bay Area’s approach to Covid-19 vaccine distribution.

Amy Conroy and team: a grant of $2.6M over 4 years from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for a project entitled, “Dyadic management of HIV cardiometabolic comorbidities among couples in Malawi.”

Dean Schillinger and team: a cooperative agreement of $2.2M over 5 years from the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion for a project entitled, “Evaluation of natural experiments of nutrition assistance to prevent and control diabetes among low-income communities.”

Julie Zikherman and team: a grant of $2M over 5 years from the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases for a project entitled, “Nuclear receptors in B cell tolerance and humoral immune responses.”
