DOM RANKED THIRD IN INTERNAL MEDICINE

In the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report annual rankings, the Department of Medicine was ranked third in the nation in internal medicine. The UCSF School of Medicine was the only school ranked in the top five for both research and primary care. Read more here.

Peter Chin-Hong spoke to ABC News supporting the FDA’s decision to remove all blood donation restrictions for gay and bisexual men. He was also quoted by the LA Times discussing his personal Covid-19 precautions and spoke at the STAT Breakthrough Summit debating what’s next with Covid-19.
Matt Durstenfeld was quoted by the Washington Post explaining how Long Covid affects the heart during exercise.
Monica Gandhi spoke to STAT explaining the racial, ethnic, and geographic disparities in HIV. She was also quoted by the LA Times asserting that data shows masking does not change the course of the pandemic.
Sam Goldman was featured in the Wall Street Journal and Science discussing his recent study that shows exposure to trichloroethylene, common in soil and groundwater, increases the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.
Nisha Parikh was quoted by SF Gate explaining how high blood pressure and pregnancy complications can impact a woman’s future cardiovascular health.
Michael Peluso spoke to NPR explaining the hypothesis that viral persistence explains many cases of Long Covid.
Rita Redberg was quoted by STAT discussing the use of liquid biopsies to catch cancer.
Hope Rugo was quoted by STAT providing feedback on a study about the risks of breast cancer recurrence for women who interrupt endocrine therapy to become pregnant.
Priya Shete spoke to NBC News providing insight as to why tuberculosis cases are on the rise.
Diana Thiara appeared on KTVU discussing Tirzepatide being fast tracked for weight loss. She also spoke to the Wall Street Journal about insurance coverage for GLPA1 receptor agonists and to Vox about the risks of GLPA1 receptor agonists for pregnant women.
Jeffrey Tice spoke to the New York Times answering questions about breast cancer risk and prevention tactics.
Bob Wachter was quoted by the Washington Post and spoke to the SF Chronicle about the Biden administration’s decision to end the public health emergency for Covid-19. He also spoke to USA Today discussing patient safety and why medical errors are difficult to eradicate.
