 FACULTY MENTORING PROGRAM AWARD

Steven Deeks received the 2022 Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award to recognize his sustained commitment to mentoring.

 NEW DIVISION CHIEF

Prescott Woodruff was named chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine at UCSF Health.

 2022 DOM MASTER CLINICIANS

Rebecca Conant, Miranda Dunlop, Don Grandis, Mimi Margaretten, Michael Nejad and (posthumously) Anitha Toke (pictured above, left to right) are this year's Department of Medicine Master Clinicians. The Council of Master Clinicians was established to honor members of our faculty distinguished by their commitment to clinical medicine and their superb clinical skills.  NEW ASSOCIATE PROGRAM DIRECTORS FOR RESIDENCY

Emmanuel Aguilar-Posada received the Julius R. Krevans Award, which recognizes clinical and professional excellence during the intern year at ZSFG.

Chris Cassel was appointed to the UC Office of the President Delegation to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Community of Practice on Open Science.

Anna Chang and Gurpreet Dhaliwal were designated as 2022 Gold-Headed Cane Society Honorary Faculty.

Mike Harper was named president of the American Geriatrics Society.

Priscilla Hsue received the 2022 Research Mentoring Award from the UCSF Medicine Residents.

Helen S. Kao was awarded the Clinician of the Year Award at the 2022 Annual American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Scientific meeting.

Andy Lai was awarded the 2022 Floyd C. Rector Award for Excellence in Teaching by the UCSF Medicine Residents.

Carina Marquez, Nynikka Palmer, and Gabriela Schmajuk were named to the Mid-Career Development Program for Research Faculty cohort.

Brad Sharpe received the Harry Hollander Award for Teaching of Clinical Reasoning from the UCSF Medicine Residents.

Janeen Smith was recognized as one of the San Francisco Federal Executive Board's "Employees of the Year" for pioneering tele-urgent care for the Bay Area and nationally.

 DOM POETRY AND VISUAL ARTS CONTEST DEADLINE EXTENDED

"Further Together" — The third annual DOM Poetry Contest is back, and now includes a visual arts category. The deadline for submissions has been extended to June 22. Read contest entries from previous years, or review the guidelines and submit your entry.


 DOM IN THE NEWS

Peter Chin-Hong appeared on ABC News discussing the impact of out-of-pocket vaccine costs, and on Good Morning America discussing treatment and vaccine options for monkeypox. He was also quoted in the New York Times regarding isolation timing.

Monica Gandhi wrote op-eds for Medscape and leaps.org discussing Covid immunity. She was also quoted in the New York Times regarding the question of hospitalization “with” or “for” Covid.

Alan Venook was quoted in the New York Times expressing surprise at the results of a cancer trial in which all patients experienced complete remission.

Bob Wachter was a panelist at the STAT Health Tech Summit describing the importance of data analytics. He answered listeners’ Covid questions on KQED, was quoted in the New York Times explaining the Bay Area's high Covid rates, and in the New Yorker discussing the future of Covid.

John Greenland and team: a grant of $1.38M over 5 years from the CF Foundation for a project entitled, “Airway Brush in CLAD (ABC) Study.”

Monika Sarkar and team: a grant of $1.2M over 6 years from the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive Kidney Diseases for a project entitled, “Androgens and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis: The Role of Male Sex Hormones in Women with NASH.”

Jessica Briggs and team: a grant of $1M over 5 years from the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases for a project entitled, “Improving the accuracy of malaria surveillance with serology and parasite genetic data.”
