Babis Andreadis was named director of the new UCSF Baszucki Lymphoma Therapeutics Initiative.

Katherine Li was named manager of the Division of Palliative Medicine at UCSF Health.

Aaron Neinstein was appointed to the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC) of the GAO.

 DOM IN THE NEWS

Judith Auerbach was quoted in the The Body about HIV prevention options for women and in National Geographic about how most women in the U.S. are unaware of the HIV prevention drug PrEP.

Peter Chin-Hong spoke with Ryan Seacrest on KIISFM radio explaining how variants develop and spread. He was also quoted in The New York Times explaining how to keep from spreading Covid if you test positive and in The Wall Street Journal saying that society may have to learn to live with Covid as the virus evolves.

Monica Gandhi co-wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post about how Omicron shouldn’t cause hospitals to be swamped in well-vaccinated areas, and for TIME magazine proposing modifications to current mandates and policies. She was also featured, along with Charles Chiu and Alice Sotomayor Gonzalez, on NBC Bay Area explaining how the Omicron variant was detected in San Francisco.

Chaz Langelier was interviewed by KQED about how the omicron variant is different and how there are still many unknowns about it.

Bob Wachter was featured in several media outlets, including CNN, NPR, The New York Times, and the Pod Save America podcast, giving updates on the Omicron surge and expressing optimism regarding when it might end.

 RECENT GRANTS OF NOTE

Sheri Weiser and team: a grant of over $3.1M over 4 years from the National Health, Lung & Blood Institute for a project entitled, “Intersection of material-need insecurities and HIV and cardiovascular health.”

John Chorba and team: a grant of over $2.5M over 4 years from the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute for a project entitled, “CSDE1 as a post transcriptional regulator of the LDLR.”

Mandana Khalili and team: a cooperative agreement of over $1.9M over 5 years from the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases for a project entitled, “Liver cirrhosis network: Longitudinal and clinical trial studies.”
