Integrate the Integrators! – Publication and video available

Integration is often considered the core challenge and the defining characteristic of inter- and trans-disciplinary (ITD) research. Given its importance, it is surprising that the current system of higher education does not provide permanent positions for individuals with expertise in this area. Based on empirical results of an ITD 2019 Conference Workshop, a recent publication sheds light on the overarching questions “What are integration experts?” and “What are potential ways forward to support integration experts in building their academic careers?”. A video created for the ITD 2021 Conference summarizes key insights from that publication. Go to video | Go to publication

The PPIE projects of the LBG OIS Center in portrait

How can patients and their family members be actively involved in research and what impact does this have on research but also on society? The PPIE projects of the first call already have answers to these questions and now present them in short videos. The Open Innovation in Science (OIS) Center accompanies the projects with their expertise in open and collaborative practices in research. ISSUES IN INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES – Call for Submissions

In the 2021, Volume 39 (1-2) of this journal, Julie Thompson Klein reflected on similarities and differences among five founding organizations of the recently formed Global Alliance for Inter- and Transdisciplinarity. As Klein described it, the article was a call for responses “answering [Bill] Newell’s challenge for AIS members to consider expanding its definition of interdisciplinary studies and conception of integrative process in light of other organizations’ interests.” With this Call for Submissions, we reiterate Klein’s appeal to respond to Newell’s challenge.
