Colorado River Adventures - CRAvin Adventure?

Colorado River Adventures - We met a true adventurer!

Emerald Cove Resort was happy to host a new friend this August. Sebastien Jacques was two-time national tennis champion when health issues made him go from an elite athlete to nearly immobile for 4 years. On February 12, 2015 Sebastien had brain surgery in Santa Monica, California to remove a benign tumor from the centre of his brain. He is now back to perfect health and will be walking almost a marathon a day for 7 months around Quebec and across America. This 5400km journey is his way of sharing his story and insight on overcoming the obstacles we face in life.

“With the right attitude, I strongly believe that we can see those challenges as learning curves that make us stronger in this amazing journey of ups and downs that is life” Says, Jacques.  “I will be challenged physically and mentally, but there is only one way to face obstacles… by believing in ourselves, staying positive, and taking it one day at a time - or in my case, one step at a time.”

The Desert Bar

A fall visit to the river should always include a run out to the “Nellie E Saloon” located in a valley between the Buckskin Mountains. In 1983, the owner, Ken built a three-sided structure temporary while he created the rest of the famous current saloon. The inside is so cool. It has windows that are old glass refrigerator doors, the bar stools are made of steel that sway from side to side. The top of the bar is brass and the ceiling is made of stamped tin purchased from an old factory in Missouri. The saloon is powered by solar energy and is stored in batteries and run through inverters. Built in 1991, the covered walk bridge was the next big project. The church was started in 1993, completed in 1996. The church is made of solid steel and the walls and ceiling are made of the same stamped tin used inside the bar and the roof is made of copper. The church is a unique place for weddings and a great photo spot. There are no services at the church and all religions are welcome. Across from the saloon is an outside bar, cooking area and stage for live music October through March.

The bar is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. Till 5:00 p.m. and located 5 miles off the Cienega Springs Rd exit on Hwy-95, approximately 5 miles north of

Parker, Arizona.

During the President’s Day weekend in February, the bar hosts the annual “DESERT DASH”, which is a 5k run/walk and a 5 mile bike ride to the bar for charity. A group from Emerald Cove always joins in!

Colorado River Adventures - TRAVEL ALERT
Colorado River Adventures wants to provide our members with the most current information regarding your safety while traveling in Mexico.  If you are considering a trip to our El Golfo Beach Resort located in El Golfo de Santa Clara we feel it imperative to share the most relevant and current information possible.  Please take time to visit and study these links before making a trip south of the border.

The U.S. State Department has released an updated travel advisory for Mexico, expanding its warnings specifically about the regions that are home to some of the country’s most popular tourist destinations.

The agency cautioned U.S. citizens that homicide rates are on the rise in areas such as the states of Quintana Roo, which includes Cancun, and Baja California Sur, which is home to Los Cabos.

Citing Mexican government statistics, the State Department noted Tuesday that, so far, 2017 has seen much higher rates of violence in those regions than during the same period last year.

“While most of these homicides appeared to be targeted criminal organization assassinations, turf battles between criminal groups have resulted in violent crime in areas frequented by U.S. citizens,” the department writes of both states, as well as of Baja California. “Shooting incidents, in which innocent bystanders have been injured or killed, have occurred.”

The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens about the risk of traveling to certain parts of Mexico due to the activities of criminal organizations in those areas.  U.S. citizens have been the victims of violent crimes, including homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery in various Mexican states. This Travel Warning replaces the Travel Warning for Mexico issued December 8, 2016.
