The Phoenix of Persia

Book launch and storytelling

Date & Time

Thursday 30th May

The British Library, 96 Euston Road

London NW1 2DB

Supported by

The Iran Heritage Foundation

Organised by

The British Library, in association with Tiny Owl Publishing

High up on the Mountain of Gems lives the Simorgh, a wise phoenix whose flapping wings disperse the seeds of life across the world. When King Sam commands that his long-awaited new-born son Zal be abandoned because of his white hair, the Simorgh adopts the baby.

The tale of Prince Zal and the Simorgh is a mythical exploration of forgiveness, family and what it means to be truly wise.

Join us to celebrate the launch of the stunning new picture book, The Phoenix of Persia, with a spellbinding family storytelling event from author Sally Pomme Clayton. This magical story is accompanied by an original musical performance, played on traditional Iranian instruments. Children will be able to try out some of the instruments for themselves and experience their unique sounds. There will also be a book-signing.

The launch and publication of The Phoenix of Persia have been supported by the IHF.
