The main focus of this newsletter is the new store that we recently delivered for Oliver Bonas in Leamington Spa, together with the fit-out of their new store in Harborne, Birmingham.

You will have heard about GDPR by now and we are pleased to confirm to all clients and our business partners that Datum is now fully GDPR compliant and our GDPR policy is now available on request.

Oliver Bonas is an independent British lifestyle store, designing their own take on fashion and homeware.

Their story started with founder, Oliver Tress, whose creative upbringing, culturally influenced by the many countries he lived in and visited, instilled a love of design and an exploratory spirit from an early age.

Whilst at university studying anthropology Olly began bringing back gifts for friends from his overseas travels. He turned this into a small business and in 1993 he opened his first shop in London.

During the last twenty-five years Oliver Bonas has evolved from curating others’ designs to creating their own; and today, Oliver Bonas has over 70 stores across the UK, with new stores in the pipeline.

As part of Oliver Bonas’ expansion plans, Datum was appointed to deliver two new stores: Harborne and Leamington Spa.

Working with the Oliver Bonas store design team, Datum used their current retail design concept, incorporating additional elements of individuality and bespoke design features into both stores.

Their work at both stores included a full M&E installation; new floors, ceilings, wall finishes and installation of all retail display equipment — cash desk, perimeter and free-standing merchandising units and lifestyle sets. In addition, a new shopfront was installed at Harborne.

Leamington Spa was an exciting project as it required a larger scale conversion, this involved renovating an old Next store on 2 floors whose existing staircase was removed to create more space near the shopfront. To install the new staircase to the upper floors on the other side of the shop Datum had to put new mass filled concrete foundations in the basement to support a new steelwork structure and fire-rated enclosure.

Commenting on the successful delivery of the company’s new stores, director David Round said: "The client was delighted with the work we did on these two stores and as testimony to everyone involved we have since been appointed to fit-out another new Oliver Bonas store in Sevenoaks, Kent.”
