Skennars crew with their new mower
What is that wet stuff coming down from the sky?
How many of us said, or at least heard someone else saying that over the last month or two? My records show that we have had quite a few dry Februarys over the past 20 years but of course none of them were preceded by 5 unusually dry months!  In all seriousness though it was good to get some grey skies and a smattering of rain to keep our plants going for at least a little longer. My rain gauge scored 86mm for the month.
With BOM predictions of a dry autumn we will continue to be grateful for every little bit of rain that comes our way.
All sites of course have been struggling and carting water has been a priority for the first part of the year. Luckily weed growth has been slow so at least we have had a chance to make some headway on those vines and grasses that so much ongoing work.
Good News Stories
The first bit of good news is that the Skennars Head crew have received a present! One of their team, Phil, found a heavy duty mower at the recycle shop and managed to cobble it together into working order. Now they no longer have to wade through field of thigh- high Farmers Friends to get to the plots they are working - amazing and wonderful that small things can give us such joy!!
The second bit of good news is that we were successful in securing a small grant from Richmond Landcare Inc which, together with community donations, should help to cover us for consumables and admin costs for the upcoming year.
