Dear  Customer

Welcome to the July edition of Piccadilly Notes.

Another busy month at Sotheran's sees us delving into our holdings of the estate of the bird book entrepreneur John Gould, with a major display of work by Elizabeth Gould, his unsung wife and collaborator, and a watercolour workshop based on his uncoloured plates. As if that wasn't enough, we are also presenting an art and architecture catalogue, and, of course, more beautiful books and prints. We're breathless just thinking about it!

Watercolour Class

Add colour to an original 19th Century Lithograph.

As part of our Gould legacy, we still have many uncoloured lithograph plates. You can learn part of the process of how these magnificent books were produced 150 years ago and take home your own finished print.

To welcome July the travel department moves slowly south in three books. From an early 19th-century British embassy to China, which was not very successful but resulted in a beautiful book, to India with a splendid and very rare publication. The last move south - as far south as possible at the time - offers the book that stands at the very beginning of Antarctic research.
