Dear Colleague,

As 2019 comes to a close, I am writing to thank you for all that you do to improve the lives of this nation's most vulnerable children. Your ongoing interest in and support of our work at CJJR is greatly appreciated and I wanted to provide you with an update on our efforts.

This year has truly been extraordinary for our Center. We have been honored to assist communities all around the U.S. through our various training programs, site-based initiatives, and field-building networks and conferences. Our staff has grown, and our efforts have expanded tremendously.

As well, the end of this year is a time of transition. We are invigorated by what we have been able to accomplish together, and inspired by what is possible in 2020 as I step into a new role as Director Emeritus and Michael Umpierre steps up as the new Director.

Wishing you a warm holiday season,

Shay Bilchik

Want to help support LGBTQ Youth?

CJJR, in partnership with the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Ceres Policy Research, is pleased to announce it is now accepting applications for the third Supporting the Well-Being of System-Involved LGBTQ Youth Certificate Program. The program will be held from April 20-24, 2020 at Georgetown University.

This intensive training opportunity will focus on the challenges faced by LGBTQ youth in child-serving systems (including juvenile justice, child welfare, education and behavioral health), as well as strengths and protective factors common to this population. The program will highlight effective policy and practice reforms that promote positive youth development, and individual modules will target family, community and youth engagement, gender identity and expression, and a multi-system, holistic approach to serving LGBTQ youth.

Following the Certificate Program, each team or individual will also complete a local Capstone Project reform effort with the opportunity to receive long-distance technical assistance.

The application period will remain open through February 7, 2020
