Dear Colleague,

Early bird registration is now available and closes on October 5. We thank early-bird registrants for their quick actionyour places are secured and youre good to go! For those who havent yet, register here now so you dont miss out on discounted rates.

In the meantime, start getting to know some of the board members of the IPBA below, who, not coincidentally, count among the leading personalities in the world of destination and place branding/marketing, and who youll be meeting in person of course at the conference:

We’ll be introducing other IPBA board members and other notable personalities attending the conference in our next update (coming soon), including details about our highly anticipated keynote speakers.

Get ready to hob-nob and engage

We begin noting some of the speakers scheduled to present at the breakout sessions and their intriguing ideas or gist of their studies. We start below with Viriya Taecharungroj from Mahidol University (Thailand) and Beatriz Casais from University of Minho (Portugal):

This is what the best paper awardee gets….

Yes, the awardee gets to jump from the highest bungy jump in the world (at 233m!), courtesy of AJ Hackett Macau Tower which has generously agreed to sponsor the award again this year. Above photos show the victim Best Paper Awardee of DBM-V in 2014, Professor Per-Olof Berg, Professor Emeritus at Stockholm Business School, Stockholm University, getting his prize. We thank Professor Berg for sharing his photos and video of his courageous jump, which you can watch by clicking on the image below:

In other place branding news….

The Scottish Tourist Board was recently advised NOT to use Sean Connery, God, or golf, in their latest marketing campaign. And its not because they're cliches. Its based on hard evidence from test viewer feedback. You can read more about it from the Telegraph here. You can actually read the insightful results of the viewer feedback in this report available online

Last but not least

Heres a timely reminder to all the speakers now preparing for their presentations, from Piled Higher and Deeper by Jorge Cham:

Absolutely no worries. Our fabulous hosts and team at the Institute for Tourism Studies in Macao are on top of things to make sure the above doesnt happen. 😉

On behalf of the IPBA and our hosts IFT, and the support of USC, Swansea University, and our conference sponsors, we look forward to welcoming you to Macao this December.
