From Andy and Liz…

If you were at our last Connect service at Barney’s, you will know that Andy brought to all our attention the question of whether, as a church community, we should be joining in with the newly formed All Saints Network of Anglican Churches across Launceston. In our two leadership teams  (Ministry Equipper Team and Mission Support Team), we have been asking the questions what is best for the church in Launceston and surrounding areas, and what is best for Barney’s? After prayer and reflection, we feel that the call to unity and the potential for fruitfulness as a result of cooperation are strong. We are encouraging everyone who is a part of Barney’s also to reflect and pray, and if there are things you believe God is saying, please do get in touch and share those by emailing info@tasbarneys.org

April is looking to be a full month at Barney’s. This Sunday (7th) we will be welcoming James Hornby, from the All Saints network, to speak - a great opportunity to get to know him a little more. The following week will see members of our community taking the public step of faith in getting baptised (see below), and on 21st we will particularly remember the wonderful news of Jesus’ death and resurrection as we celebrate Easter. While Sundays are by no means the whole of what happens in our community, this month they will include many causes for celebration, so do join us if you can!

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)

Praying for our Ministry Equipper Team

One part of the leadership structures at Barney’s is our Ministry Equipper Team. This team is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of our church community; establishing and guarding our vision and values, listening to God and putting in place strategic plans and goals. The Ministry Equipper Team is so called because, rather than being responsible for all ministry that happens at Barney’s, these people are called to equip and build up others in their own areas of ministry.

In 2019, our Ministry Equipper Team has a new make up, and we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce them to you as a team.

Andy and Liz Goodacre, Gabi Dunn and Stefan Wagner remain on the team as they have done in previous years. Andy holds the position of team leader and particularly focuses on developing other leaders and helping to cast vision for Barney’s. Liz’s areas of responsibility are our Sunday gatherings, communication, and overseeing Kids Praise Club and Youth for Truth.

Gabi's role particularly involves equipping and resourcing our missional community leaders, while Stefan leads our Men’s Missional Community.

New to the team in 2019 are Christoph and Staci Ochs and Tommy Macqueen. Christoph and Staci both live and work at Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies where Christoph is Dean of Academic Studies.

Christoph was also recently ordained, and he and Staci bring a wealth of experience as well as a passion for discipleship and pastoral care to our community.

Tommy is a qualified Outdoor Education Teacher and has previously led a missional community which combined his love of the outdoors with sharing the gospel. Tommy is passionate about discipleship and hopes to relaunch our Barnabas Team Discipleship year in 2020.

All of these leaders give their time and energy to our church community in many ways. It would great if you could be praying for them in the coming weeks:

  • pray for good rhythms of meeting and communicating, so that we can be effective but lightweight
  • pray for wisdom and discernment as we navigate Barney’s involvement in the All Saints Network
  • pray that we would have roots that go down deep with Jesus as we seek to serve him in leadership.

Baptisms

On Sunday 14th April, a couple of members of our Barneys community will be celebrating the new life they have received in Christ by getting baptised. The baptisms will take place at Lake Trevallyn after our regular gathering at Barneys in the morning. We will plan to meet at the venue by 12pm. Please click here for directions.

We are celebrating these baptisms together with the All Saints Anglican Network, and there will be a couple of people from their church community being baptised as well. We will worship together and hear from those getting baptised before the baptisms take place. Afterwards, we will share a picnic lunch together, so please bring something to eat and something to sit on.

Choosing to live as a follower of Jesus and affirming his death and resurrection and the new life it extends to us is a bold and significant step and a great cause for rejoicing. Please do come along and support those getting baptised and celebrate with them.

If you are still thinking about getting baptised, its not too late to join in! Please email Andy on info@tasbarneys.org by 7th April if you would like to discuss your own baptism further.

Prayer Network

Did you know that there is a prayer network at Barney’s? This network operates via text message and is available to anyone who’s part of our community to ask for prayer on their own or someone else’s behalf. Text in your prayer request and it will then be sent out to all those in the network, generally within 24 hours.

The number for the prayer network is 0481 072 663. Text the word JOIN to be added to the network, and the word STOP to remove yourself from the list.

If you are sending a prayer request on behalf of someone else, please ensure you have their permission to do so.

Launceston Alive Easter Festival
17th-21st April
Various Locations in Launceston

The Launceston Alive Easter festival is happening again this year over the Easter long weekend. Easter is a time to commemorate and reflect upon the most profound moment in world history. The original Easter inspired some of the world’s finest art, music, literature, discovery and innovation. It is in this tradition that Launceston Alive seeks to celebrate with a festival of art, music, thought and food. It seeks to bring people of faith together in unity and cooperation, to engage in a relevant, helpful, relatable way with those still exploring truth, to celebrate the wonderful and transforming power of Easter.

Go to www.launceston.org.au to find out more about what will be happening this Easter, including guest speakers, combined church events and the children and families Easter festival at City Park.
