Dear Colleague,

We hope you’ve had a great summer break (or still enjoying it 😀!). Things are getting more and more excited as we draw closer to the IPBA-DBM Conference—only 4 months to go! Here are some useful updates:

  1. Early bird registration is now open til only October 5. Secure your place by registering here.

  2. You can already browse a partial list of the fascinating presentations for the breakout sessions here. This year’s programme is shaping up to have a great balance between practitioners and scholars.

  3. Headlining this year’s conference is our illustrious list of keynote speakers, which includes:

  • Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office, who has been at the helm of Macao’s exceptional transformation into a global destination brand

  • Brett Free, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Government’s Information Services Department, the office responsible for Brand Hong Kong and the highly acclaimed Hong Kong Asia’s World City multiyear campaign,
  • Andrea Inch, Senior Lecturer at the Dept. of Marketing, University of Otago, and among the notable and rising thinker-scholars of place branding.

  • Grant Bowie, CEO and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings. With their latest property having just opened this year, the MGM Cotai, the MGM is a treasure-trove of experience and knowledge in placemaking and destination branding.

In case you missed this insightful and detailed feature article from the Guardian published last November, on the growing importance and flourishing practice of nation branding, you can catch up by clicking on the image below. It will give you a good brush up in time for the meeting this December! 👍🏽

4. Finally, we urge delegates to confirm their accommodation soon as possible. Hotels in Macao have year-round high occupancy rates, especially on the peninsula. For more info about the conference hotel, visit here.

Macao’s Senado Square. Located at the heart of the city’s historic centre and the locus of a striking assemblage of built and intangible heritage that made UNESCO recognize Macao as a World Heritage Site in 2005. The Square is about 20 minutes by foot from the Royal Hotel.

We can’t wait to welcome you to what is shaping to be a stimulating, intimate, and productive gathering! On behalf of the organizers, the IPBA Board, and the DBM convenors Nigel Morgan of Swansea University and Rich Harrill of USC, yours respectfully.
