| Sheila E and Camperdown Academies Host LegislatorsWe had two great legislative drop-ins at Exceptional SC schools since our last email. Head of School Sheila Coplin at Sheila E Academy in Sumter and Dan Blanch, Head of School at Camperdown Academy in Greenville, both opened their doors to local legislators to meet parents and some of the exceptional needs children that attend their schools.

| Rep. Murrell Smith of Sumter, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, came out and spent some time at Sheila E Academy, where he emphasized his belief in the Exceptional SC program and the difference that schools like these are making in the lives of these children across South Carolina. | | |
| In Greenville, four legislators took time out of their busy schedules to come and meet about 25 parents who had gatherd to share their personal stories. Rep. Chandra Dillard, Rep. Jason Elliott, Rep. Garry Smith and Senator Ross Turner all enjoyed the fellowship and interaction of hearing from parents of the students at Camperdown Academy and other area schools that were represented. Thanks to the schools and parents and staff of these schools for making these meetings so special!

| Enrollments Are Coming InWe are excited that over 1,700 students have already applied to our program for next year, and we are constantly working to expand and grow so that more SC exceptional needs students can participate. As interest in our program grows, please keep in mind that scholarships are student based, and the school has the responsibility to be approved by the Education Oversight Committee and to verify your student's enrollment at the school. Exceptional SC does not collect religious data and no portion of scholarship awards depend on anyone’s faith. Since Exceptional SC is a “parental choice” and not a “school choice” program, parents choose the school that best fits their children’s needs, and we will always work to ensure that it remains that way. Our organization does not select the schools receiving the scholarship money; parents do. | |
| Scholarship ApplicationsScholarship applications will remain open for the 2019-2020 school year until Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 5 pm. To apply, please visit our website. You can follow the link from there to TADS. Parents will be notified by email in July of scholarship amounts. Our fundraising efforts for next year are already underway, and we’re hoping and praying for an expansion of the funds by the SC General Assembly in this year’s state budget. Keep in mind that the scholarship award amounts are tied directly to the tuition of the school chosen by the parent. Each school verifies that actual tuition as well as the enrollment of each child early in the summer. If you have not applied yet for next year’s scholarship, you will need the following to apply: basic household contact information the eligible school in which you plan to enroll your child (if your child's school is not listed click ‘other' and type it in the box provided) a copy of your child's eligibility paperwork.

| As you most of you know, a stand-alone diagnosis of ADHD does not qualify for our scholarship program according to state law. Please read this short article on when and how an ADHD diagnosis can qualify. | |

Finally, we’ve been receiving some questions lately from parents about confusing information being emailed out from now-defunct scholarship organizations. Please know that, as South Carolina’s ONLY exceptional needs scholarship program, you can trust that ALL of the information you will need about scholarships, eligible schools and applications will come only from Exceptional SC.
