2. Amsterdam, Ciel Bleu, Okura Hotel
Several of our contributors point us to this Dutch treat. Two Michelin stars mark Chefs Onno Kokmeijer and Arjan Speelman menus which provide a different perspective of this favorite. Guide inspectors write, "At Ciel Bleu visitors can expect a spectacle: the view of the city is fantastic and the modern elegance of the decor is a feast for the eyes. The technically accomplished chef reveals his true character, producing an astonishing variety of international cuisine, surprising in its creativity and unexpected combinations of flavors."
3. Athens, GB Roof Garden, Hotel Grand Bretagne
Michelin writes, “Set on the 8th floor of the Grande Bretagne hotel, this elegant rooftop restaurant offers spectacular views across Syntagma Square towards The Acropolis. Sunny, modern Mediterranean cooking uses fresh ingredients and is accompanied by an extensive wine list. Service is smooth and efficient.” We agree. The view is breathtaking as you look out on such historical sites. A top pick by Wine Spectator fours years in a row it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
4. Bahrain, Re Asian Cuisine, Four Seasons
Time Out Bahrain writes, Last year, this high-end fusion Asian restaurant scooped our most prestigious accolade – Restaurant of the Year – and this year it scoops the Best Asian award. And deservedly so. Since opening, the restaurant has introduced a new kind of fine-dining to the island, with an expert kitchen team, trained by notable celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, transforming regional classics into refined, beautifully flavoured and elegantly presented dishes. From the contemporary, 50th floor setting to the highly professional servers and buzzing atmosphere, re Asian Cuisine continues to set standards high on Bahrain’s restaurant landscape. This year, the team has also launched a leisurely Saturday brunch experience which is excellent. In general, a dining experience here is pricey, but for special occasions this restaurant comes highly recommended and is certainly one to visit.

Located on the 4th floor roof, the Mama Shelter restaurant offers a culinary experience inspired by the Serbian traditions, simple, tasty and generous.
Find its gigantic bar in the heart of the room, its opened kitchen and a wood-fired oven pizzeria. Name by Forbes as one of Europe’s best new rooftop restaurants,
its 5,000 sq. ft. terrace overlooks the city and offers an exceptional view. It also offers an outdoor bar, a giant table football, tennis table, and a spectacular braseiro.
6. Berlin, Hugos, Hotel InterContinental
The one Michelin star Hugos Restaurants on the 14th floor of Hotel Intercontinental in Berlin-Tiergarten guests will experience the perfect combination of panorma, food and service. Reserve one of three private dining rooms, each with a different view - east, west or south. West looking at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is pictured above. Choose a four, six or eight course tasting menu.
7. Berlin, SkyKitchen, Andel’s Hotel Berlin
Michelin writes, “It is worth making your way out to Lichtenberg to sample the voyage culinaire on offer on the 12th floor of Andel's Hotel. The 3- to 11-course set menu showcases a creative, modern cuisine full of contrasts with local and international influences. The setting is relaxed yet stylishly chic, and the view is wonderful. The Skybar is two floors further up."
8. Cape Town, Granary Cafe, The Silo
A pick from Embark Beyond CEO Jack Ezon, Conde Nast Traveler writes, "Colorful artworks from the collection hang in the ground floor entrance and around the hotel, including commissioned pieces by Frances Goodman, Jody Paulsen, and Pierre Carl Vermeulen. From there, you shoot up to the reception on the sixth floor and the hotel’s Granary Café, where you get an eyeful of the waterfront on one side and Table Mountain on the other through the building’s huge “pillowed” window bays by U.K. industrial designer Thomas Heatherwick. You’ll also get a sampling of the brashly eclectic interior design overseen by owner Liz Biden (think colorful silk fabrics, European and Asian antiques, African art, and industrial details)."
9. Cairo, The Roof Top, Kempinski Nile Hotel
Located on Floor 11 The Roof Top is Kempinski Nile Hotel's open air dining venue above the River Nile and positioned as the sun sets on the horizon. The menu is limited compared to other restaurants in the hotel, but there are freshly prepared mezze trays presenting local ingredients, and you can order from the menus of other restaurants in the hotel, including the specialty beef shawarma. Most of all you have the views.
10. Cairo, Revolving Restaurant, Grand Nile Tower
This is the former Grand Hyatt now trading as Grand Nile Tower and it offers some of the best views you will find of Cairo. It rotates 360 degrees in 75 minutes, bringing the Pyramids, the Nile River and the entire city into view. It offers French cuisine with a show kitchen.
11. Cairo, Upper Deck, Four Seasons Nile Plaza
With table seating and a menu that includes salmon filet, sea bass with lemon butter sauce, surf and turf and a full sushi bar as well as sandwiches and salads, despite its name, Upper Deck Lounge makes our restaurant list with its floor to ceiling glass windows and rooftop views.
12. Copenhagen, Sticks’n’Sushi, Tivoli Hotel
Situated on top of Tivoli Hotel & Congress Centre in Central Copenhagen, this large restaurant, with stunning views, a rooftop terrace and cocktail bar, can accommodate groups up to 85 people for dinner. On the casual and fun side of the dining spectrum, Sticks'n'Sushi also has a wide range of meat, from free-range chicken, veal and wagyu beef to sustainably caught fish and organic pork. They also make vegetarian and vegan food and use as much organic produce, as they can. The hotel has some decent suites, and is modern, not luxury, but good if you are there for a night and want fun place to host your Danish team or partners.
13. Copenhagen, Sukaiba, AC Hotel Bella Sky
On the 23rd floor, 76 meters above ground level, restaurant and bar Sukaiba Copenhagen is a new restaurant and bar experience in 2018 based on sustainability and local ingredients. Guests can choose from an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner alike and making room for both light meals and more 'all-round' food experiences.
14. Doha, Al Matbakh, Arumaila Boutique Hotel
Part of Bill Heinecke’s Minor Hotel Group, the Arumaila Boutique Hotel is host to this rooftop Indian restaurant which offers sunset views of Doha’s skyscraper filled skyline in the new Souq Watif complex. Qatar Living recommends, "Nalli Nahari, lamb shanks braised in old Delhi spiced gravy, which had been cooking to perfection for six hours prior to our arrival.” It says, "Overall, Al Matbakh is the North Indian experience you’ve been looking for. You will get all the old favorites with a few new items. The menu is simple and effective, and each dish is crafted with passion that translates into the flavor.”
15. Doha, Zengo, The Kempinski Residences
Inspired by the world travels of Chef Richard Sandoval and the ancient spice routes from Asia to the Far East, Zengo’s menu offers a unique spin on authentic Pan-Asian cuisine. The menu ranges from sushi, sashimi and hand-crafted dim sum to curry dishes, grilled entrees, and wok dishes. Hand-muddled mocktails, with a focus on Asian flavors, complement the diverse menu. I Love Qatar writes, "Zengo is an Asian inspired restaurant located on the 61st floor (with) panoramic views of the sea and Doha cityscape. The menu offers a large variety of Asian dishes including sushi, tempura, dim sum and stir fries. The dumplings are a popular item!"
16. Dubai, Al Muntha, Burj Al Arab
At the top of perhaps one the world's most iconic hotel 200 meters above the gulf waters, modern French cuisine accompanies your 27th floor view. You have “the entire (Dubai) skyline right in front of you,” says Vista Global chairman Thomas Flohr.
17. Dubai, Mix by Alain Ducasse, Kempinski Emerald Palace
Mary Gostelow of The Gostelow Report says, "An impressive and stunningly beautiful place to dine, both in the setting and food presentation." Mix by Alain Ducasse pays tribute to the local produce. Surprisingly perhaps, it’s the first restaurant of the famous chef in the United Arab Emirates and also the largest in his restaurant group. It is zoned to create an intimate, welcoming atmosphere. Spread over three floors, guests have an option to enjoy al fresco dining on the sixth floor rooftop, surrounded by views of the sea and The Palm Jumeirah. There is a private chef’s table hidden from view in the central dome of the Palace, where you ascend in a private elevator.
18. Dubai, Prime68, JW Marriott Marquis
Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the glossy white interiors of Prime68 with natural light. Located on the 68th floor of the JW Marriott Marquis if you want steaks with your view, this is the place. In fact, it won best steakhouse from Awards Dubai, Food & Travel Arabia, Time Out Dubai and the World Travel Awards. There are also private dining rooms seating up to 15 (above) so good for group business dinners.
19. Dubai, Namu, V Hotel by Curio
Located on the 31st floor of the V Hotel (formerly the W Hotel) in Dubai's Al Habtoor City CNN named it as one of its “Best rooftop and sky-high restaurants in the world.” Dubai’s only licensed Korean restaurant, according to TimeOut Dubai, Namu is “taking the open kitchen concept to a whole new level (featuring) a square island with four live stations, each focusing on methods incorporating either steam, action, fire or ice."
20. Dubai, At.mosphere, Armani Hotel
Award winning travel journalist Julia Assad likes At.Mosphere Restaurant in the Burj Khalifa, which while not in the hotel, it is just an elevator ride up from the Armani Hotel. This is “the place” for eating at the top of the world. Perched at the 122 floor at the World’s highest skyscraper - Burj Khalifa, this restaurant serves degustation menus.
21. Florence, B-Roof, Baglioni Grand Hotel
On the fifth floor of the Grand Hotel Baglioni you can find the restaurant B-Roof, where you can enjoy haute cuisine with a panoramic view of Florence's skyline. You will feel like you can almost touch Brunelleschi's dome and Giotto's Tower. The restaurant is also the ideal setting for events of all kinds, especially receptions, ceremonies and weddings, thanks to the versatility of the spaces, the multi-level terraces, the trellises and the typical wrought-iron balustrades. Blogger Wandering Eater writes, "The food satisfied my stomach and craving for Tuscan fare. The service was very courteous and friendly. But the thing that really takes this experience to another level were my eyes being fed by the marvelous vistas from my table and the unparalleled views of Florence if you are able to go to the outdoor terrace."
22. Florence, SeSto, Westin Excelsior
Michelin says, "Situated on the sixth floor of the Westin Excelsior hotel, this modern, designer-style restaurant is the jewel in the hotel's crown. While the view of Florence through the large windows is stunning enough in winter, in summer the superb terrace gives guests the impression of flying above the city. Imaginative cuisine with robust flavors created by an experienced and highly skilled chef.” I’ve stayed at the hotel. It’s a solid choice.
23. Geneva, Izumi, Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues
Geneva is turning Japanese at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues over Izumi, its rooftop Nippon restaurant with picture perfect views of Mont Blanc, the old city, its eponymous lake and the gurgling Rhone River directly below. While the city has strong competition in the luxury hotel sector, the rooftop view is definitely a point in favor of staying here.
24. Hamburg, Heritage Restaurant, Le Meridien
Chef Rasmus Schulte Rahde and his team serve steaks, fish. Michelin inspectors say, "Heritage offers a fantastic view of the River Alster and appetizing cuisine to boot. Menu options include international dishes such as the North Sea turbot with black beluga lentils and lime Hollandaise sauce, as well some delicious smelling (thanks to the 800° US Southbend Broiler) prime mature steaks."
25. Istanbul, Mikla, The Marmara Pera Hotel
Located on the roof top floor of the Marmara Pera design hotel, “Mikla is urban, sleek and stylish. The restaurant is funky retro with chrome 70’s and 50’s furniture and a stunning wooden rail-sleepers bar,” says Newsweek, adding, "The magical views over the city stretch to the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace where you almost travel back through time to the heart of the Old Istanbul.” The restaurant is funky retro with chrome 70’s and 50’s furniture.
Both the menu and the general feel of the restaurant reflect the Turkish-Scandinavian background of Mehmet Gürs, the Chef-Owner. It’s ranked #44 on World’s Best 50 Restaurants in 2018.
26. Istanbul, Spago, The St. Regis
Crowning The St. Regis Istanbul, Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant combines stunning views of Maçka Park and the Bosphorus with a warm, contemporary design and original artwork. A distinctive white, ribbed vaulted ceiling unfolds onto floor-to-ceiling glass, connecting an intimate dining room with a spectacular lounge. A zinc and leather-topped bar anchors the lounge and frames the exhibition appetizer kitchen, which invites guests to observe our chefs in action. The linear spaces are further defined by beautiful, intricately patterned wood plank and inlaid mosaic.

Safran Restaurant on the top floor of the Intercontinental Hotel offers incredible rooftop views of the palaces and mosques glittering on the Bosphorus. Live classical Fasıl music adds the finishing touch to an authentic atmosphere. Academie Internationale de la Gastronomie awarded Safran Restaurant for its Turkish and Ottoman cuisine with sophisticated setting. EATOut describes the menu as "fusion with Asian, Italian and Thai influences and flavors. Start off your meal with three light salads – the shaved vegetable salad with beetroot, carrots and chia seeds comes with a perfectly poached runny egg, which has a crispy batter. There’s a Thai-inspired soup with mussels, line fish, prawns, Asian sausage and udon noodles. The Kudu carpaccio is served with grilled zucchini, artichoke and roasted hazelnuts – just the right flavours to prepare your appetite for mains. Also worth trying is the apple-and-fennel cured salmon with lime, buttermilk, rye toast and rooibos vinaigrette."

We found Rossio via Lindsey Ueberroth, the CEO of Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Forbes writes, "The rooftop restaurant at the Altis Avendia hotel is worth a visit for the rooftop views over the beautifully tiled square of Restauradores. If weather allows (it usually does), insist on a table on the terrace. Chef João Correia is proud of the fact that his robust, rustic cuisine is inspired not by fine dining but by his grandmother’s cooking in the central province of Ribatejo. There’s no use of liquid nitrogen or spherified anything, just a desire to feed people well."
35. London, Aqua Shard, Shangri-la
Aqua Shard is not actually part of the Shangri-la hotel, but it is in the same building, thus it makes our list. Located the 31st floor, the restaurant serves innovative contemporary British cuisine paired with spectacular London views. Gayot writes, “Aqua Shard offers views over London from the 31st floor of Europe's highest building, and an interior done in a purple and grey color scheme with comfortable banquettes covered with Liberty print. Add to all this dishes using seasonal local ingredients and a dash of exotic flavors and you have a winner. Potted rabbit comes with baby vegetable pickles and rosemary toast; roast halibut is accompanied by charred onion, confit orange peel and nasturtium leaves with a passion fruit and honey dressing adding a sweet note. Or go for roasted Cornish lamb loin with carrots, mint yogurt and puffed rice. Desserts range from salted caramel chocolate mousse with crispy Mandarin to poached pear with honey sponge and ricotta, and there’s a good selection of British cheeses as well.”

Conde Nast Traveller writes, "There’s something pretty special about taking in panoramic views of Finsbury Square and the City.” Think local, sustainable sourced products all fresh by the day. In addition to coal oven steaks, you’ll find roast fillet of Peterhead cod, Jerusalem artichoke, apple, shitake mushrooms, hazelnut butter or fillet of red deer, cauliflower, shallot, pickled walnuts, salsa verde.
37. London, Radio Rooftop, ME Hotel
Blogger Heroine in Heels reports, "Radio is a rooftop restaurant bar above the ME Hotel. It’s got a bit of a reputation of the kind of place where the cool kids hang out. Leggy blondes taking Instagram photos, and men in Gucci slippers sipping champagne in the sun. However for all its cool kid vibe, it’s surprisingly welcoming for us regular folk. This mix is perfect though, as it means I get to indulge in a bit of people watching.” Aside from the views, there is a variety of Mediterranean inspired dishes.

Michelin notes Ristorante Armani, stating, "Elegant and carefully prepared contemporary cuisine served on the seventh floor of a palazzo which is totally dedicated to the world of Armani. Superb views of Milan combine with a decor of black marble and backlit onyx to create an exclusive and fashionable ambience."
39. Monte Carlo, Le Grill, Hotel de Paris
Located on the 8th floor of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Le Grill offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Mediterranean. The roof opens entirely, so you can enjoy lunch in the sun and dinner under a starry sky on warm days. The cuisine features grilled meats that have built the restaurant’s reputation. The renovations are a return to an illustrious past, the renaissance of a magical place and the promise of an exhilarating experience. Michelin points to its “very good” wine list.
40. Moscow, Conservatory Restaurant, Park Hyatt
Rooftop Guide says, “You get one of the best views in Moscow with stunning sights of the Kremlin and the Bolshoi. Come early to get a table on the outdoor terrace. The decor is rather simple, classy and uncluttered. The rooftop bar at Conservatory Lounge & Bar Terrace serves fabolous cocktails and there is really nice food, both for lunch and dinner.
41. Munich, The Terrace, Mandarin Oriental
Open during the summer months, The Terrace is one of Munich’s best-kept secrets for al fresco dining or sip cocktails. The newly redesigned terrace features a lounge area with a bar. Movenpick's revolving restaurant on the 24th floor offers 360-degree vistas of the Kenyan capital while you enjoy traditional Swiss specialities. A variety of fondues and veal zurichoise with crisp white table cloths and immaculate settings will make you think you might be in Zurich.
44. Oslo, The Roof Foodbar, The Thief Hotel
Michelin says, "During the summer season Thief FoodBar on The Roof holds its doors open. You’ll enjoy pre-batched cocktails together with sizzling snacks and delightful summer dishes based on the finest seasonal ingredients. With splendid views across the Oslo Fjord and Tjuvholmen it is the ideal place to be stolen away from everyday life.” You’ll find seating for 100 guests on the deck with the salty fresh air, and a sizzling Josper grill preparing light summer dishes and grilled meats and seafood. Look forward to spring chicken cured in porter beer, malt-marinated beef steak and tagliatelle alle Vongole, among other delicacies. There are now glass panels and heating that extend the season.
45. Paris, L’Oiseau Blanc, The Peninsula
The Gostelow Report’s Mary Gostelow gives us L’Oiseau Blanc located on the 6th floor of The Peninsula Paris. The restaurant offers French cuisine, highlighting the best national products hand-picked everyday at the market. Each week there is a new menu inspired by seasonal ingredients. The aviation-themed interior celebrates flying aces Charles Nungesser and François Coli who attempted to cross the Atlantic in 1927 from Le Bourget.
46. Porto, The Yeatman, The Yeatman Hotel
Of this two star Michelin restaurant, CNN reports, "Chef Ricardo Costa creates tasting menus that are a contemporary interpretation of traditional Portuguese flavors, and his dishes are always ideal for pairing with The Yeatman's vast collection of local wines.” Michelin adds, "This stylish restaurant has a bright decor combining the classical and the contemporary, as well as phenomenal views of Oporto across the river. The young chef conjures up innovative cuisine showcased via several menus, with dishes based around seasonal ingredients and a superb balance of flavors. The wine cellar is one of the best in Portugal."
47. Prague, Zlata Praha, InterContinental Hotel
Zlatá Praha at the Intercontinental Hotel Prague offers spectacular views over the city by day and a more intimate candlelit atmosphere after sunset. Executive Chef Roman Dolejs and his team use the freshest ingredients available, all sourced from local suppliers. Highlights include a candlelit dinner overlooking the city and Sunday Brunch. Come at sunset for amazing views.
48. Reykjavik, Grillio, Radisson Blu Saga Hotel
Michelin says, "Located at the top of (the Radisson Blu Saga Hotel); the unusual ceiling depicts the zodiac signs but it's the 360° views that will steal your attention, especially at sunset. The young team deliver an array of ambitious Nordic dishes with clear flavors."
49. Rome, La Pergola, Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria
Heinz Beck’s three Michelin star La Pergola in the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria offers stunning views of the of Rome in a classically decorated dining room. Andy Hayler, the only person to have eaten in all Michelin three star restaurants in a single year says, “Fagotelli carbonara is the restaurant signature dish, and was as good as ever, the liquid filling of the pasta delightful, the seasoning precise. Black cod mash with celery infusion and crust was also excellent, the fish beautifully cooked and the celery having deep flavor.” He adds, “Service was superb from start to finish, as polished as you could wish for.” If you are an oenophile, he notes the wine cellar contains 65,000 bottles of wine, with 3,500 different labels offered on the list.
50. Rome, Le Terrazza, Hotel Eden
A favorite with several of my expert helpers, Le Terrazza brings Michelin star fine dining and spectacular views. Chef Fabio Ciervo is focused on fresh produce and herbs in his bold and native cuisine. Guide inspectors write, "Sitting in the modern, elegant dining room of La Terrazza, your attention is drawn to the spectacular roof-garden restaurant overlooking the city's rooftops. Also competing for your attention is the creative and original cuisine which has a hint of local flavor, although the main influence here is the chef's imagination."
51. Rome, Mirrabelle, Hotel Splendide Royal
