Podology Graduate
It’s been a long few years of learning and fine-tuning my foot care skills! Starting in 2014, I compled my first designation as a Certified Master Pedicurist (CMP), followed by Infection Control, Comprehensive Foot & Leg Evaluation, Advanced Skin & Nail Pathology & Diabetic Foot Syndrome, and finally, this year, after a 1 week Residence Practicum, I am proud to say that I have officially graduated from the North American School of Podology (NASP) with a Bachelor of Science in Podology (BScPod); which now elevates my knowledge & education beyond a standard pedicure, provides me with advanced pedicuring techniques and offers my clients quality specialty footcare services.
On Feb 3, 2017, I graduated with honours with a Bachelor of Science in Podology on the beautiful island of St Kitts, where along with 29 classmates, 8 educators and countless volunteers spent one week at the Old Boys School offering a FREE Foot Care Clinic to the residents of St Kitts and Nevis! It was an immensely rewarding experience, and the joy we felt from the locals that came to have their feet cared for was often overwhelming! In only 4.5 intense days, 29 students serviced 855 pairs of feet! A rewarding experience felt by all! We were welcomed at the airport by the local Rotary Club, where they helped us navigate through customs, baggage claim, buses and finally to our hotel! Without them and their amazing organizational skills to get supplies and sponsors, advertising and volunteering, the week would have been a disaster!
We were fortunate to have some amazing local speakers from the Rotary Club, Health Care Department & University of Health Sciences come out in the evenings to share the history of the islands as well as the health care and diabetic concerns that the island residents are facing.
We were all very thankful to all the companies who donated supplies to make our jobs a lot easier…from paper towels, hand soap and bottled water to specialty product lines like Footlogix, National Shoe and Medilogix that we could give to our clients.
Special thanks to Vicki Malo (VP from NASP) who organized the trip, and to all her amazing volunteers that made everything go so smoothly! All the educators shared their wealth of knowledge that we (the students) absorbed gratefully; in turn we performed our new special skills on our clients, who were eternally grateful to have healthy feet when they left the free clinic!
It was an amazing experience thanks to all the new international friends and colleague I was fortunate to meet and learn from!
