Unique Polymer Systems LTD has developed a unique urethane based ceramic coating, available in both paste and fluid form. This ceramic coating has high abrasion and cavitation resistance and has performed very well in both controlled laboratory tests and field applications.

One such case study involved a Goulds 3490 Double Suction Pump, which was rebuilt and coating using the UPS 200 EG and UPS 235 BG Urethane Coatings.

The impeller was subject to severe cavitation and was being regularly replaced every 3 months. The Unique solution involved rebuilding the worn surfaces with UPS 200 EG Urethane Paste Grade Ceramic and then over coated with UPS 235 BG Urethane Fluid Grade Ceramic at a total cost of $1,500, including the labour costs. After 41 months of continuous operation (30,000 hours) the pump impeller was removed for inspection. This resulted in the impeller being 98% intact, with tiny defects that needed repaired from the solids that had passed through the holes in the strainer.
