Our Favorite Pacific Island Resorts

When natural disasters hit, business aviation steps up, be it individual private aircraft owners or companies with several jets. Yesterday I put together this story for Forbes.com describing the industry’s efforts, and your efforts in helping out, so thanks for everything you do!

Island vacations are always something a bit special because they can be so different. In the two years we have been doing this newsletter, in this issue we highlight five of the best covering the diverse Pacific, from the islands of New Zealand to Maui and a small atole in French Polynesia, the former private island of Malcolm Forbes in Fiji, and an African-Asian experience in Indonesia.

Whereas our newsletters focus on one or two top suites, our Special Reports each give a comprehensive 2,000 + word report on the resort, including dining, amenities, local life and all of the top suites and villas. For this report, we give you links to the full Special Reports that are part of our library.

I hope all your trips are amazing experiences!

1. The Brando, French Polynesia

The Brando was originally a homesite for the namesake actor and his legacy as an environmentally focused luxury resort. Eschewing overwater bungalows, it combines healthy, haute cuisine with French orientations and the Tahitian lifestyle with an ability not only to appreciate but learn about nature. This year it ranks #2 in the Travel + Leisure best 100 hotels list. If you travel between Australia or New Zealand and Asia or North America, The Brando is an excellent place to break the journey. It is also available for full takeovers. Click here to read the full special report.

2. Nihiwatu, Sumba, Indonesia

With Indonesia relaxing regulations for foreign registered private jets to travel within the country, getting to Sumba, the island where Nihiwatu is located is easier. For two straight years Travel + Leisure’s Number 1 hotel in the world (like The Brando, we brought it to you before it was on either list) the hotel is the conception of former Ritz-Carlton executive and Tory Burch co-founder Chris Burch. A former surfer’s retreat, it is now luxury stand alone villas combining equestrian, wellness, beach polo, nature and of course surfing. It is said to be one of the best surfing sites in the world. The island combines both the Indonesian and African aesthetic. Click here to read the full Special Report.

3. Four Seasons Maui at Wailea

Yes, that’s your backyard if you are in one of the two new Presidential Suites at Four Seasons in Maui at Wailea. One of the first of the new wave of five star resorts that evolved modern luxury in the 1990s, it recently had a head to toe makeover, with a special emphasis on its signature suites and local experiences.  There’s also a second 6th floor Presidential Suite if you prefer high floor views. Either way, you get that guarantee of Four Seasons service in an environment that might want you to stay a bit longer. Click here to read the full Special Report.

4. Laucala Resort, Laucala Island, Fiji

Yes, that’s just one of the private villas, not even the biggest. Laucala is a no expenses spare Fijian experience. It started life as Malcolm Forbes’ private islands. With multiple and restaurants and bars for less than 100 guests, there is even an 18-hotel championship golf course and a private submarine. The island and accommodations are spread out so our comprehensive Special Report will help you figure out which one is best for you. Click here to read the full Special Report.

5. Best Lodges in New Zealand

As you probably know from our reports, we like to talk to experts, and when that comes to travel, that means top travel agents. In the case of New Zealand’s best lodges we pulled top travel advisor Chad Clark down under to get his recommendations for the best rooms, suites and private houses at the best hotels and lodges in Kiwi.
