Rough Guides name Malawi #3 in 'Top Countries for 2018'
"Check in now before the crowds do" is the advice from the travel experts Rough Guides as they announce Malawi as #3 in their Places to Visit in 2018.

Each year, Rough Guides authors and editors travel tens of thousands of miles, searching out the best destinations, sights and experiences, from new trekking routes and historical trails to underrated cities and conservation success stories, this week they revealed 18 places that should be on your radar in 2018 and Malawi came in at number 3 - number 1 for Africa.

Leonardo DiCaprio commits to protect lions in Malawi
After being part of the largest elephant translocation project in history, Liwonde National Park in Malawi is now to see the return of lions thanks to funding through Leonardo DiCaprio’s charity foundation.

Lions are receiving critically needed support, thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio and the Lion Recovery Fund. The fund was created by Wildlife Conservation Network and Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to protect lions and their ecosystems across Africa.
Over the last century, lion populations have seen a rapid decline from 200,000 to just over 20,000. With the support from the Lion Recovery Fund, African Parks will be reintroducing lions to Liwonde National Park, strengthening the ecosystem as well as supporting Malawi's growing tourism economy.
