August 2014 Update

District Conference 2014

Over 300 delegates and guests gathered at the ALIVE Wesleyan Church on July 12 for the 47th Annual Conference of the South Carolina District.  General Superintendent Dr. Jo Anne Lyon was the denominational representative at the conference and led in the Ordination Service.  The tone for the day was set by the worship team from the host church and the opening message by Dr. Mark Gorveatte, President of Kingswood University, and the time of communion around the tables led by host pastor, Rev. Tom Harding.  The inspiring and anointed messages of Rev. Mark Wilson punctuated the afternoon with encouragement and challenge.  The presence of the Holy Spirit was unmistakeable!
The day concluded with the Ordination Service that was held in the chapel of ALIVE.  The leadership of Rev. Tony Casey and the DBMD that helped this beautiful and moving service become a highlight for the day is deeply appreciated.  General Superintendent Lyon’s persona and anointing made this an unforgettable time for the ordinands and for those present to affirm their calling.  We extend our congratulations to them.

Family Camp

The cooler weather for Family Camp 2014 was a welcome sign of God’s blessings, but it paled in comparison to the dynamic presence of the Holy Spirit in the worship and preaching for our week at beautiful Table Rock.  Rev. Mark Wilson and Rev. Isaac Smith were faithful and anointed proclaimers of God’s Word.  This was the first time for these two dynamic leaders in The Wesleyan Church to minister at our district camp.  The worship team, led by Deysi Rodriguez and Amanda Boyd, led us into focused and vibrant worship.  We express our thanks to the Famly Camp leadership team.  The worship team is pictured above.

Welcome new pastor to Pickens View - Rev. Jake Lee

For the first time in 22 years, the Pickens View Wesleyan welcomes a lead pastor who is new to their congregation. Rev. Jake Lee began his ministry as the new Senior Pastor of the Pickens View Wesleyan Church on June 13.  The Lee family comes to us from the Penn-Jersey district.  He hails from New Jersey and his wife, Miranda, is a Mississippi native.

Jake is a graduate of Asbury College and received an M. Div. degree from Wesley Biblical Seminary. Miranda is a graduate of MIssissippi College (Masters in Vocal Pedagogy) and is a gifted musician.irThier four children are: Matthew (13), Hannah (11), Joshua (7), and Elijah (3).

God has used Pastor Jake as a college professor (Ohio Christian University), in local church ministry and camps.  The Lees came to The Wesleyan Church following successful ministry in the Church of the Nazarene.  We feel blessed to have them serving in our district.
(They are pictured above with the two younger children.)
Rev. Mike McClung - New pastor at Trinity

Rev. Mike McClung is the new Senior Pastor of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Central.  Pastor Mike and his wife, Linda, are both graduates of Southern Wesleyan University and are both Ordained Ministers in The Wesleyan Church.  He comes to Central following a very effective 10+ years of ministry in a church in the Penn-Jersey district.  He previously served as youth pastor In NC and Colorado.

The McClungs met at SWU where Mike came from Virginia and Linda from Alabama.  He is scheduled to receive the M.
