Your Argyle Financial Bulletin for February 2017
Dear Client,
An optimistic start
Thus far, 2017 seems to be unfolding in a relatively positive fashion and we remain optimistic about the months (and years) ahead. Coincidentally, earlier this month whilst discussing the future, we heard a fascinating radio interview with a gentleman called Charles Eugster, who has recently written a book entitled Age is just a Number. At first it wasn’t easy to reconcile his hugely upbeat tone with the fact that he is now some 97 years of age... but this prompted us to download his book, to learn more about the man and his philosophy. Without giving away too many 'spoilers' regarding this fascinating read, we found his outlook to be highly engaging and his enthusiasm for life is truly inspirational. For this reason, we whole-heartedly recommend you explore his book... it looks at the ageing process in an extremely refreshing and genuinely positive light. Matters FinancialTurning to matters financial, we continue with our review of the funds within your portfolio, although candidly there are no glaringly obvious ways in which we can improve current allocation. Our concern over Index Linked Gilts remains, but this is tempered somewhat by the apparent rise in inflation, which could actually provide the right conditions for this vehicle to flourish once again. There are many situations playing out on a daily basis in the UK, the US, continental Europe and the Far East, which might provide an indicator for changes in direction and we can only remain vigilant during our current research period. Tax Year EndThe end of the Tax year is fast approaching and in addition to the increasing ISA allowance, there may be opportunities for you to increase your pension contributions, to maximise tax saving. Please let us know if you would like to discuss any issues (particularly involving income tax) as we move through the coming weeks.
