The Defamation Bill - an update for website operators The Defamation Bill in 2013 was passed to give better protection to people expressing their opinion as well as offer protection to those running websites and online forums – but subject to caveats. Read more The decision of the Court of Appeal in Mitchell v News Group Newspapers Limited The court's tough stance on compliance with rules and deadlines has had the harsh edges removed, but is still here to stay. The stakes were high as the matter was of critical importance for the reputation of his client, but over the course of a two day hearing Irfan coolly despatched an experienced barrister who had been sent by the employer and local authority to fight their corner. Irfan's client's reputation was vindicated and damages were awarded in her favour. At the time of writing, Irfan is heading to Glasgow for a five day hearing in the Employment Tribunal where he will be deploying his formidable courtroom skills. |
