Dear District 6 Families and Community,

A sincere thank you to our entire LAUSD staff for keeping our schools and kids safe during last week’s Creek Fire.  I was very humbled and proud to see our community come together during this devasting time.  My team and I will continue to work closely with our Superintendent and city officials to provide support to families affected by the fire.

This month I had the pleasure of discussing my Creating Pathways to Lifelong Success Resolution with principals from Local District Northeast. Thank you to our principals for your meaningful input about what investments we can make to ensure our students graduate ready for college and careers.  I also passed a resolution at our November Board Meeting, Urging the State of California to Reclaim Its Leadership in Education by Increasing Investment in Our Schools. It calls on our state to provide our schools with the full and equitable funding that they deserve and calls on our education community to lobby together to fight for this change. Read more below.

As we get ready for the holiday season, I want to take a moment to share how grateful I am to serve our amazing Board District 6 community.  Your commitment and hard work inspires me everyday. Happy Holidays and have a wonderful winter break!

Sincerely,

Kelly Gonez

Urging the State of California to Reclaim Its Leadership in Education by Increasing Investment in Our Schools

Sponsored by Board Member Kelly Gonez

The state of California ranks 46th in the nation in funding for our schools. My resolution calls on the state to double education funding by 2020 to $20,000 in per-pupil revenue for students in public schools. Our schools can only thrive if they receive the investment they deserve.
