The Plantation
Belize Tourism is Booming

Tourism continues to prosper in Belize as the world discovers this amazing location.   The Belize Tourism Board reported an 18.4% increase in over-night tourists for all of 2015 and an amazing 24% increase for January from 2015 to 2016.  Belize was the fastest-growing destination in the entire Caribbean the first quarter of 2016.

Placencia continues to shine as THE destination of choice for the Who’s Who of Belize.  The Prime Minster is currently building his retirement home here.  The wise choose Placencia.   And the only 5-star branded hotel in Belize has chosen Placencia; the Sedona Resort opens in November.  Placencia continues to draw the higher-end clients and especially the ones more active and seeking a full-time retirement destination.

As tourism increases so does the demand and pricing for real estate and Placencia is no exception.  NOW is a perfect time to invest in the market here as the boom is on, yet just starting.  We offer exceptional values when compared to Cancun, BVI, Miami, Bahamas, Cabo, Hawaii, Costa Rica and many other destinations.  Bright times are upon us and the sun keeps shining. 

More and more flights are being added to Belize.  Southwest started flying out of Houston Hobby last year and are now already adding direct flights from other destinations.   Jet Blue is working n some flights for next year.  A direct flight from Canada is also in the works.  And destinations such as Denver, Calgary, Washington DC and San Francisco are all in negotiations.  I can’t wait for a direct flight from Denver!

Leverage Global Partners is a network of the most successful and exclusive independent real estate firms around the world.  BMA was invited to join as the exclusive Belize real estate firm for this very productive global network.  The annual meeting was held in Los Angeles in March and BMA was there.  The multi-day event focused on networking and training.  The participants were either the owners or the top-producing agents of the member firms and we all shared our marketing tools, sales technique and tricks of the trade that work for each firm.  There is no threat to sharing  'secrets to success' amongst members since Leverage only allows one firm per real estate market.   They select the best of the best…like BMA.  The training was exceptional and the networking very prosperous.  One of the keynote speakers was a premier real broker from China associated with a Leverage partner in Los Angeles.  BMA is now working on a multi-million dollar development deal in Placencia via one of the contacts made at the expo. International Living conference
International Living Conference in New Orleans 

International Living aids in helping people retire overseas. In April 2016 BMA attended one of IL conferences promoting retiring in Belize. Almost 500 people registered and a little over 400 showed up. We had over 50 meetings with people sitting down, wanting an introduction to Belize. About 20 of the attendees will come down this year to do their due diligence and others plan to come in 2017. Among those that plan to come want to rent first, get to know the area and the people here.  BMA encourages our clients to come down first, scope out the area for yourself and see if Belize is for you. We are excited to announce that we will be attending another International living conference in Red Rock Resort & Spa, Las Vega, November 10-12, 2016.

The Placencia Casino

Our team visited the casino for the grand opening on May 5th, 2016. The environment and atmosphere gives off a Las Vegas feel but yet we remain in paradise. The Casino has over 150 slots machines, live blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, 3 card poker and so much more.  This is definitely a place to have fun; you can relax with a beer or cocktail and catch all you favorite game day action at the sports bar. With the real estate and tourism at it’s highest peak, Placencia Belize will continue to develop and be one of the best place to visit or call home.

Alwin Fle is a student from Narbonne France. He studied International Trade in Louise Michel High School with a concentration in Economics, Communication, English, Spanish, and Management. His goals in Belize was to improve in speaking English and Spanish, adapt to a new country way of work, life, people and acquire new skills and knowledge. His hobbies include MMA and playing Basketball. Alwin spent 2 months with Boris Mannsfeld & Associates observing our real estate services. He enjoyed going out on tours and getting educated about the peninsula. Our staff also enjoyed his company and his contribution of new ideas to improve our services. We will miss Mr. Fle but it’s time to say Au Revoir (Goodbye).

Boris Mannsfeld & Associates was invited by HGTV to produce an episode for their Caribbean life series in August 2015. The show first aired in March 2016, which had millions of viewers.  Belize is certainly getting known for it’s beautiful beaches, stunning islands, friendly people and much more.  BMA was invited once more to film 2 different series, Beachfront bargain hunt and island hunters. Harvest Caye
Norwegian Cruise Line

The Norwegian Cruise Line Harvest Caye luxury private island cruise project is looking fabulous.  The BMA team has visited the island and it is quite impressive.  A stunning private pool and beach. Luxury day-rental beach cabanas, zip-line tower, etc.  The first passengers are scheduled to arrive November of this year.  400,000 arrivals are projected for the first 12 months.  One good thing is that the ships will be docking on their own island 3 miles afar so the passengers will not be over-running the tranquility of the Placencia peninsula.  We do foresee businesses in town immediately benefitting from the inflow of some guests.   Furthermore BMA predicts that the extensive marketing that NCL will implement for the area will result in an increase in non-cruise ship overnight tourists.  We also project a healthy inflow of overnight tourists after 6 months when the first passengers return for extended vacations after discovering the beauty of the Placencia area.  Hotel occupancy will increase, local businesses will prosper and the real estate market will benefit.  NOW is the time to purchase that vacation home, beach lot or investment property, as prices are still very reasonable.  Just $200,000 for a Caribbean beachfront lot in paradise or $400,000 for a luxury 2-bed condos right on the beach!

Progress is being made at the much-anticipated Placencia International Airport.  Reliable sources have verified a new investor is on board and that they should have the first private flights landing by year-end. I personally was approached by a customs official at the international airport in Belize City in June about his need for housing in Placencia, due to him and 4 other customs officers moving to Placencia in August to prepare for the opening of the Cruise Ship island and the new international airport.  Very exciting news!  I personally project an opening of the airport within 12 to 24 months.  Once it opens to private jets and charter flights from around the world we will truly become a world-class destination and real estate prices will appreciate significantly.  You will be able to land within 15 minutes of the Caribbean beach from New York and Aspen in just a few hours.  Amazing!

Additionally, the government has announced the expansion and upgrading of the current Placencia airport.  This will allow for larger planes to land and for night flights to arrive (not all night but just the first hours after dark).   The local airline Tropic Air has also ordered two Twin-Otter 19-passenger airplanes solely to fly passengers from the Belize city international airport to Placencia starting in November.  An employee told me that they have experienced a dramatic increase in visitors to Placencia so need to expand their airlift capacity.

So what are you waiting for?  Pack your bags and get down here ASAP and experience that immediate feeling of never wanting to leave that 99.99% of the visitor’s experience.   There are very few places around the world like Placencia; and it’s only a few easy hours away from the USA.  I arrived late in the evening on the 12-hour bus from Belize City 24 years ago.  When I stepped off that bus, even though it was pitch dark (not many lights back then) I experienced that feeling that I had found a very special spot.   That same feeling is in the air today.  You do not need to play Lotto to get lucky.  Just fly down here and you will realize what Lucky is all about.
