MARCH 2018

A busy start for 2018

We trust that you have made a great start to 2018, and that you and your team members are enthusiastic and engaged for the year ahead.

Our first major event for 2018 was the Best Practice Network National Summit recently held on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It was very well attended with over 100 participants listening to some impressive case studies of transformation and building capability.

Drew Locher and Nick Katko, our international guest speakers, gave great insight into leadership and best-practice lean implementation with their pre-summit workshops and keynote addresses.

We are already working on the 2019 National Summit to be held in Melbourne on 22 February - the theme will be centred around technology, lean and people.

Make the most of our ‘Member Requests’ service

The Best Practice Network aims to bring its members together in a range of activities to share, learn and improve their businesses. You can see what activities are planned at our website

There is no substitute for practitioner-to-practitioner learning to motivate and provide those insights that deliver better practices. Our network continues to grow in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Remember, we are only a question away if you need some advice from our membership and our network facilitators. Our ‘Member Request’ service is working very well, with many positive contributions and we sincerely thank our members for generously responding and sharing their ideas.

Just a reminder to join our Best Practice Network Linkedin Group where we regularly share industry updates, blogs, and the latest lean and operational excellence information. We welcome your contributions and perspectives to the Group.

We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events around Australia throughout the year.

2018 Best Practice Network

National Summit - Wrap-up

On 23 February, over 100 members travelled from across Australia to attend the 2018 Best Practice Network Third National Summit on the Sunshine Coast. This year’s theme was ‘Leading Transformation and Building Capability’ .

Our two international guest speakers, Drew Locher and Nick Katko, were joined by six expert speakers from some of Australia’s largest companies.

Despite the torrential rain that day (so much for the ‘Sunshine' Coast!) it was a fantastic National Summit, and participants returned to their workplaces with many new learnings and ideas. Thank you to all who attended, our speakers, and to Kevin Bennett, Network Facilitator NSW/QLD, and his team for organising an excellent Summit.

Members can access copies of the presentations via the Members-only online login section - email Shane Vaughan, Network Coordinator, to request your login details if needed.

“Thank you for a very well-conducted and informative Best Practice Network National Summit in Queensland. I really enjoyed it and am inspired to apply the learnings at our factory.”

Francois Steverlynch, Managing Director, Crusader Hose

15 February 2018 - Astra Zeneca Supply Chain, Think Global Make Local - Astra Zeneca NSW

“I liked the presentations which involved all areas of Supply Chain. For myself, the key take-away was the go-cards and visual management boards specifically designed for warehouse. I would like to implement this as soon as possible within Ontex.”

Rakesh Shetty, Supply Chain Manager, Ontex Global

22 February 2018 - Nick Katko, Introduction to Lean Accounting - QLD

“After attending the workshop by Nick Katko with our Financial Manager and Administration Manager, we believe the techniques that Nick described will be simple to implement and be a great help in focusing on particular value add streams."

Lionel Armistead, General Manager, SLQ

28 February & 1 March 2018 - Drew Locher Workshop, VSM for the Office - ANCA VIC

“With the help of Drew, we were able to remove ourselves from the day-to-day by taking a step back and walking through our own processes, really scrutinising what we really did, and what value that really gave us. It gave us a great opportunity for self reflection and to really see objectively what parts of our processes were providing value, and which weren't.”

Matt Mannix, Custom Solutions Manager, ANCA
