May 2018

Dear District 6 families and community,
This month, I got the chance to meet many of you at our Picnic in the Park, a fun-filled event we hosted with food, school performances, and an obstacle course. Thanks to all those who were able to join us! We were thrilled to see so many of you from throughout the East Valley.
In its regular meeting, the Board approved my Achieving Excellence for All resolution that calls for a working group to develop a framework for monitoring school progress.  This will allow us to better support our schools in District 6 and throughout LA Unified as well as help parents and community members to understand how their school is doing on an annual basis.
Finally, our schools are heading towards the end of the year and still going strong. I have visited more than 80% of my schools, and I’m on track to visit every school before the end of the year. From our early education centers teaching foundational literacy to our adult education programs preparing students for a new career and all schools in between, there are amazing things happening in Board District 6. Find out more about some of them below.

Sincerely,
Kelly Gonez

      Engaging Parents and Families
Partnering with District 6 Families to Create a Valuable Framework for Parents
Last month, my team worked with District 6 families to discuss my Achieving Excellence for All Resolution. We heard directly from families about how a school performance framework will help them better understand their schools.  Following our discussion, several parents also attended April’s Board meeting in support of my resolution.
