#BeMoved: New Elephant calves born in Nkhotakota
African Parks is creating a safe harbour for elephants. The results speak for themselves, with signs of the first elephant calves born in the reserve from the elephants that were translocated in 2016.

Nkhotakota was once home to more than 1,500 elephants. Over the years, lack of protection coupled with the insatiable demand for precious ivory reduced this once vibrant herd to fewer than 100 individuals, with much of the other wildlife in the reserve also depleted.

But African Parks envisioned something else for this landscape...

Sunbird Tourism to manage Thawale Lodge
We are thrilled to announce that Sunbird Tourism will now be managing Thawale Lodge and the Mwembezi Restaurant in Malawi’s Majete Wildlife Reserve.

The 10-year contract with African Parks, who manage the Majete Wildlife Reserve (a unique conservation and tourist destination), will allow Sunbird, who are a leading name in Malawi’s tourism, to bring Thawale Lodge to an international standard and allow guests from around the world to enjoy this fascinating reserve.
Lake of Stars Festival to return in 2018
The Lake of Stars festival, Malawi’s biggest music and arts event, celebrated thirteen years in 2016. With five successful years at Mangochi, 2016 saw the festival return to its roots on the shores of Chinteche Inn, welcoming over 3000 people from across Malawi and around the world.

In 2017, the Lake of Stars will be on a break while the team focus on other projects and dedicate more time to creative projects in Malawi and also the UK as they provide the diversity they strive for. Even though there will be no festival in 2017, it will return stronger than ever in 2018, with more fantastic artists and acts ready to take to the stage.
