Sugar - Baby food, teaspoons and tax

In January 2016 the European Commission was forced to rethink its position on sugar content in baby foods. MEPs backdated the resolution from the UK's Keith Taylor to block a draft law which would have allowed baby foods to provide up to 30% of their energy from sugar, compared to the 5% level which is considered by the World Health Organisation to be a healthy level.  Read more



New regime for fining food law breaches

Tougher fines for food safety and health and safety offences came into effect on 1 February 2016. The Sentencing Council published guidelines for these cases, which sets out a matrix of culpability and harm or risk of harm.  Read more
