The founder of the René Touraine Foundation, Prof. Louis Dubertret, has very successfully directed this prestigious organization for over 25 years by supporting therapeutic progress and research in dermatology. After many years of hard work, he has decided to retire in his function as president and to hand over the presidency to myself, starting from the beginning of 2018. I am truly honored to take over this prestigious function and will try very hard to further contribute to the success of this renowned foundation.

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude towards the Board of Directors, Scientific Board, Scientific Committees and the entire team, as well as the generous supporters for their long-standing, tremendous commitments. I would be very grateful to be able to continue to count on your marvelous engagement within the foundation.

The global burden of skin diseases resulting in one of the leading causes of non-fatal health loss worldwide was undoubtedly confirmed in recent years. Therefore, major efforts in the prevention and treatment of skin diseases need to be prioritized even more. Accordingly, the René Touraine Foundation will maintain its great efforts to improve access to patient care and medical expertise, in particular for patients with rare skin disorders and chronic inflammatory skin diseases. We will also continue to focus on therapeutics in dermatology and the development of a free reference book on the management of skin diseases. A very important goal will be to further support clinical research and training by organizing scientific meetings and awarding research fellowships.

With my best wishes for a successful new year and the cordial invitation to continue and increase your vigorous cooperation.

As I am retiring from the presidency of the Fondation Rene Touraine’s Board of Director,I would like to sincerely thank each of you for the outstanding achievements of your actions at the service of our patients and of Dermatology.

I would like to thank first our permanent team, Marie Guillou, Christina Pitton and Cheila Ramalho, aided by our civic service volunteers: you are the heart of our activities.

I would also like to thank the Board of Directors: your vision has regularly improved the strategy of the Foundation.

A very special thanks to the Scientific Board: your involvement despite your very busy schedule, your creativity to find practical ways to better take care of patients in developing countries or in isolated areas, your generosity to give your time for free, is really wonderful.

Many thanks to our national representatives: you perform an outstanding job in developing national networks and international collaborations with the aim to improve the quality of care for your patients, often in overloaded situations by the number of patients and the difficult, or impossible, access to expensive drugs. You are the evidence that doctors by themselves are a major treatment to improve the quality of life of patients.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Thomas Luger, who has accepted to take the presidency of the Board of Directors. Your vision, your remarkable ability to lead a team and your generosity are the best chance for the Foundation in its mission of better connecting dermatologists across the world with the aim to better meet the patients needs: it is the future of Dermatology.
