Junior Beach Trip to Cornwallis Beach

A huge thank you to our junior school parents and teachers (and extended family) who supported our Junior School Cornwallis Beach trip last Thursday.
It was a great day with everyone returned safe, sound, tired and happy.

Middle and Senior School Trip to Orewa Beach
What a brilliant way to end the week with all our year 3 to 6 children at Orewa Beach.
The weather was awesome, the water so warm and parent support so impressive that we had one adult for every three children.
Our kids had a fabulous time, apart from a break for lunch, swimming was an all day affair.
We were approached by a local resident who wanted to know which school we were and where we were from.
Her reason for asking was so she could send an email to the school complimenting us for being so calm, efficient and organised, and to commend the children for their outstanding manners and behaviour. She was very impressed, so that is great news.
It's another example of our Love to Learn to Lead values shining through yet again.
We then received this follow-up comment on Facebook:
Gwen Sarchet Hi, I totally agree with the Orewa resident, my husband and I were also at Orewa ( our favourite place) and were impressed with the children's behaviour either in the sea or playing on the grass, well done Western Heights school !

Homestay Parents Wanted

We have some visitor students from Korea with us for a couple of weeks. They would love to experience Kiwi homelife before they head back to Korea. We have one girl and two boys at year six age level, and ideally would want a family with children around this age. The homestay fee is $230 per week

Thanks.

Meet the Teacher Night - Thursday 18 February

The picnic aspect of this even has been cancelled due to predicted rain from 5pm to 7pm for our specific area.

Parking Problems at Palomino

I know this is a perennial problem for parents, but if there are not some changes made it is going to be expensive for some of our parents.

Palomino shopping centre put in poles to create a gap so backdoors to the shops could open. Parents were parking (on yellow lines) so close the shop people couldn’t open their backdoors - a real issue if there was a fire for example. Now parents are parking beside the poles (on yellow lines). Behind the shops is a no-go area for private cars. I have been asked to tell you they will be bringing in Parking Wardens and towing cars from now on. Please respect their requests.

For tonight - and other similar events at WHS - we will open up the main gates by the office admin area and allow parents to park in that car park and/or on our field. It’s the best I can come up with for now.

Children are encouraged to munch a FREE piece of fruit while their parents shop for their groceries.

What a brilliant idea!

Thanks to parent Trudi for sharing this in response to my post about the one I spotted in Rotorua.

Guess it shows I need to shop local. 😉
