1. ROSEWOOD BERMUDA OVERVIEW
Rosewood Tucker’s
Point reopens this month following a $25 million renovation designed to elevate
the resort from suites and guest rooms to restaurants and public spaces, the
beach club and golf clubhouse as well as its top rated spa. Its new name is simply
Rosewood Bermuda, aligning itself with the fast growing uber luxury hotel brand.
While luxury is a
very overused term, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts operates at the very high end
of the 5-star spectrum. Its philosophy is “A Sense of Place” meaning each
property reflects its particular location’s history, culture and sensibilities,
so if you have been to other properties such as Rosewood Mansion at Turtle
Creek in Dallas, The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel in New York City or Las Ventanas
al Paraiso, a Rosewood Resort, in Los Cabos, you will know that each property has
its own unique, localized take on luxury.
In keeping with
this philosophy, the design in Bermuda will showcase furnishings and artwork
from local artists and artisans in a blend of the past and
present. The design of the guestrooms and suites, lobby and new Conservatory
Bar and Lounge was led by Dawson Design Associates, whose credits vary from the
opulant Sir Francis Drake in San Francisco to Philadelphia’s Logan with its
cool, modern design.
Alexander Waterworth Interiors Ltd. (Q Grill Selfridges,
Annabel’s and High Road House in London) was given responsibility to
redesign The Point restaurant, Tucker’s Bar, Beach Club and Golf Clubhouse. The
brief was to combine the elegance of Bermuda’s colonial English heritage with
the vibrancy of its indigenous culture to create a unique and authentic
Bermudian experience.
One of the first
things you will notice upon arriving is an elegant lobby (above) more akin to a private
manor house than a resort. At the heart of the new lobby, the new
Conservatory Bar and Lounge (below) and atrium courtyard will serve as a
retreat for guests to relax and enjoy coffee, afternoon tea or craft cocktails
(More in the Bars and Restaurants section below). The lobby will also offer
access to improved retail offerings.
The designs of the resorts 92
guestrooms and suites has been transformed from hotel accommodations into residential-style retreats, featuring
bespoke furniture, contemporary local art and hand-selected fabrics that reflect
the local fauna and beach. The soft neutral color palate is complemented with
azure blue accents and local, hand-crafted accessories.
Prior to closing, Rosewood Bermuda was already on numerous award lists. For the past four years
its spa was voted among the Top 15 resorts in the Caribbean and Atlantic by Conde Nast Traveler. It has also
been on Conde Nast’s Gold List (2011 to 2013) and Travel + Leisure’s World’s
Best during the same period. In 2013 it was name to Kiwi Collection’s Top 20
Hotels in the World. Before closing for the refurbishment, the hotel was
already ranked #4 on the island by Trip Advisor with 90% of reviews being
Excellent (73%) or Very Good (17%). Of 710 reviews, there were only three negative in 2017. Separately, US News & World Report ranks Rosewood Bermuda
#1 on the island praising its views of Castle Harbour, Harrington Sound and the
Atlantic Ocean as well as its kids programs that include both tennis and golf.
It is the only
hotel in Bermuda to receive four stars from Forbes Travel Guide, which sends
hidden inspectors to all hotels it rates. Forbes writes, “Along Bermuda’s famed
pink sand beaches, the longest private stretch belongs to Rosewood Bermuda, a
200-acre waterfront resort…It’s barefoot luxury at its finest, from pampering
treatments at the 12,000-square-foot Sense Spa to days spent on the four tennis
courts or Roger Rulewich-designed golf course to afternoon Dark and Stormy
cocktails on your private terrace.”
“It’s definitely my first choice on the island, hands down,” says Nicole Gerber of Jetsetting Families, continuing, "It’s luxurious, classy, super convenient to the airport and it’s the best in terms of service, food and beverage and quality on the island. I have been to numerous hotels on the island and while each offer something special for the right client, Rosewood is in a league of its own.” She also notes, “For someone looking for the best there is on Bermuda, definitely Rosewood,” adding, “I tend to send a lot of babymooners, couple getaways and even families looking for a quick and easy getaway from the east coast. It’s really such a seasonal destination but I had clients there over the December holidays and they loved it.”
Lori Stone, an advisor with The Accomplished Traveler, says, “It’s regal but not stuffy. It’s perfect for golfers, and Rosewood is known for its service. The
beach is fantastic. You have to take a shuttle eight minutes to the beach or you can walk. There is a beautiful pool in the main area as well as the beach, which is very big.”

Harbour, these suites come in one-and two-bedroom configurations and are situated in three independent buildings
separated from the Manor House. Each suite is comprised of a parlor

3. RESTAURANTS and
BARS
New venues are designed to provide modern and elevated dining
experiences that celebrate locally-sourced ingredients and Bermudian-inspired
cuisine. However, quality of dining was never in question at Rosewood Bermuda with Conde Nast Traveler last year “an outstanding menu, terrific service, and sublime food.”
Island Brasserie
The resort’s
signature restaurant reopened as the Island Brasserie, a
vibrant and informal space that will introduce guests to local Bermudian
cuisine through traditional dishes that combine the island’s rich culinary
traditions with new-world flavors. Accented by the existing, iconic
hand-painted murals, the restaurant serves elevated island comfort food,
while Tucker’s Bar is now a rum bar dedicated to teaching guests about the
history of the island’s signature spirit.
Conservatory Bar
and Lounge
Featuring
breathtaking views of Castle Harbour, the all-new Conservatory Bar and Lounge
serves at the beating heart of the resort where guests and locals alike enjoy hand-crafted British gin cocktails and spirits enhanced by fresh herbs,
house-made infusions and the latest mixology techniques. With its twin
fireplaces, black and white hand-painted tile floor and elegant beamed
ceilings, the new bar is a fusion of both old and new. Boasting local art,
casual and inviting décor and relaxed, friendly Bermudian service, the bar is be complemented by the intimacy of the new courtyard, which brings a rustic
accent to the space.
Beach Club Restaurant
The reimagined
Beach Club Restaurant is inspired by
the vibrant fish markets of Bermuda. A neutral color palate complements the
stunning pink sand beach for which Bermuda is renowned. Enjoy an updated bar
serving imaginative, island-inspired cocktails and a menu of seasonal,
locally-sourced seafood dishes.
Sul Verde
Sul Verde, the
Golf Clubhouse restaurant was re-conceptualized to bring the rustic warmth
and traditional spirit of the southern Italian region of Campania to the
fairways. Boasting an authentic menu of the highest quality Italian ingredients
and a warm, convivial atmosphere, Sul Verde is reminiscent of an authentic
family dinner in the heart of Italy. Situated next to Sul Verde, The Grille
Room received a refresh too.
Dining on the
Beach
It’s exclusive
dining experience with the entire stretch of the beach and evening sky as your
dining room. You will be led down to the water’s edge where a beach lounge area,
with a mini fire place and sound of the waves awaits their arrival. The arrival
is timed just before sunset allowing for two very distinct experiences — sunset
cocktails and stargazing drinks after dinner. The tableside experience features
a five-course set menu with wine pairing, giving focus to Provençal cuisine.
Upon completion of the meal, you can relax in the lounge area while enjoying
a digestif, coffee or tea.
4. BEACH CLUB
Located on Bermuda’s
largest private, pink sand beach, the Beach Club was redesigned for sun-soaked relaxation and
casual seaside dining. In addition to a new restaurant and upgraded bar,
enhancements include chic new cabanas, umbrellas, pool and beach
furniture, and expanded luxury services and amenities.
5. GOLF
Golf Digest calls the course “hilly and panoramic.” Golf Magazine says, “The current version of the hilly layout is a 2002 product of Roger Rulewich, who increased the playability with wider fairways and softer greens, but retained the wow factor, notably at the 425-yard, par-4 13th, which overlooks Harrington Sound and the Royal Naval Dockyard.” For golfers, you will find new carts and subtle course upgrade. According to Top 100 Golf Courses black tees are just a little under 6,500 yards but with a course rating of 72.1 and a slope of 134. It says accuracy, however, is more important than distance and it cites the spectacular views. Stone says it is a perfect venue for a guys golf weekend.
6. SPA and FITNESS
To further enhance
Rosewood Bermuda’s health and wellness offerings, the property will introduce a
modernized Sense, A Rosewood Spa and a new fitness center featuring
state-of-the-art Technogym equipment. To complement the renovation, Rosewood
